Alta battery dying quickly

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had my Alta for a while now.

Initially battery life was great, I would charge it once a week, then it decided to die within a few days, so I would charge it and it would again only last a few days....this happened for a couple of weeks, then suddenly all was fine again I was back to once a week charging.

That was a while ago.....over the last couple of weeks this has started happening again, I charged my Alta just before last weekend (the battery hadn't been holding out and I was going to be doing a lot of walking at the weekend) I had to charge it again on Monday. Today (Thursday) it decided that it was going into give me a low battery warning again...it's on charge again at the moment....

I wouldn't mind so much if I'd been doing miles and miles of walking the last 4 days, but I haven't.

Help!

Has there been an update that has screwed up the battery life?

I wouldn't mind, but it's dying at inconvenient times.....usually when I want it.

I'm following this thread because mine is having the same issue all of a sudden. I just charged it Monday and I'm getting a low battery warning again. And I haven't been very active this week because I've been sick. It has always lasted me a week or so, and I normally do around 11k a day or so.

I am also having problems with my alta holding a charge.  I've had my alts since October and originally I only had to charge it once a week.  Now it's only holding a charge 3-4 days.

sldjf;sldjf;sldjf;slkdjf;lkjds My Alta is not even a year old and is also now dying very quickly after a few days rather than once a week.

Hey Fitbit moderators, can anyone help with this?

I am also having the same issue! I usually charge once every 4-5 days. I charged to full battery yesterday morning and now about 36 hours later it's telling me I'm nearly dead 😞 help!

Update!

Its now Monday morning. I couldn't start using my Alta until Friday morning....I need to sleep, and it was on charge overnight.....and the app is showing that my battery is low, will be interesting to see if it makes it through the day.

I will update later!

Come on moderators please help with this.
I'm seriously thing of getting something other than Fitbit as I seem to have one issue after another.

I've had 3 Charges....straps fell apart every time. This is my second Alta as the first one died within a month.

I have found that customer support is very helpful and suggest you contact them.

Also if you have not done a reset (press the button on the usb part of the charger 3 times in 8 seconds and verify that the Fitbit logo is on the Alta screen) then try that.  THE reboot fixed my battery dying problem.

To be honest I don't demand 5-7 days but I'm getting close to it.  I think I charged the battery on Friday and I would estimate that it's over 3/4s full still according to the Alta.  the app says battery full... but as it gets lower it will drop to Battery medium and stay there for days...

I know Customer Services are very good I have contacted them a few times in the past.

This is an ongoing issue, and silly me thought this forum (with Fitbit moderators, who have been helpful in the past) would be the best place to query this, especially as others may (as it appears are) be experiencing the same problem.

I haven't reset it yet but I will, thank you for the suggestion.

However, I don't feel that it is wrong to demand 5/7 days battery when in the past that is what I have got from it, when I have done much more walking.....

This is a problem I have had on and off since I have had the Alta.

I totally agree. I was getting 5 days or so. I have hourly reminder to walk, and all day sync and messages and phone calls on mine and the suggestion to turn these off was not acceptable.

I've been having the same problem. I've only had my Alta for about 3 months. Initially I could go about a week before charging. Now I'm down to ever other day or so. Very frustrating!

Same issue for me as well.  All of a sudden the battery drains in 2-3 days max.  I reached out to Fitbit Support on Twitter and unfortunately got the same response - stop all day sync, turn off quick view, turn off reminders.  I had already done all that with no improvement and to be honest, those were features that I wanted when I decided to purchase the Alta.  If I can't use any of those, then it's just a very expensive pedometer that constantly needs charging 😞

Everyone --Your Fitbit Alta battery can last up to 5 days between charges. If that's not happening for you, I recommend restarting the Alta and also checking out these tips for improving your battery life.

If you're still experiencing issues after trying those tips, I suggest getting in touch with our Support Team and letting them know of your experience and what you've tried so far. I am confident that our team will be able to provide you with further options for getting back on track.

I restarted my Alta as suggested by ladybugNessa on 1-23-17, one week ago today. And I just now got a low battery alert message. Thanks for the help! (I had surgery on Friday and haven't moved much all weekend is probably why it lasted a week.)

Update!!!

It's Tuesday morning and mine is still on medium battery (at the moment) from charging Monday last week.  However, due to being poorly my alarms were turned off and I barely moved more than 1000 steps in 4 days!  So it's not a real test. Curious to see when it does decide to die this week now!!

Another update will appear following a proper week of activity!

I just want to say that the restart is holding.  last week I charged on Friday when i got the "low battery"  notification.  On Thursday this week I still had not received the notification so I charged it for the weekend.  I got 7 days.  and I have all of these on:

hourly reminders (5 days a week)

text and phone connection

all day sync

UPDATE!!!

A tad delayed, but due to not trusting when it would die, I charged my Alta before a big day out....it had had about 4 days use.

So....it's now Thursday and I've put my Alta on charge (not had the low level warning yet, but I won't be able to charge it if it dies within the next couple of days) I last charged it Tuesday last week , so 10 days ago.....it was showing low medium battery.

So the recommended  reset obviously worked.

Thank you for your help!
