Alta keeps dying when fully charged

Hello,

I've been having continuous issues with the Alta line of fitbits. I was gifted one just over a month ago, and within the 1st week it kept dying.

It was fully charged and I tried resetting it. This would work as a very temporary fix, as it would die again within the next couple hours.

Figured maybe it was just a faulty watch, so I went back to Sportcheck and exchanged it for a new Alta. Problem is, I am having the exact same issues with this new Alta as well.

I really want to use this product, but at this point it just seems like a poorly made gadget built to die. I've read countless reports of the same problem with this device, and am hoping the Fitbit company can do something about this situation.

I could easily go and exchange the watch again, but I dont know if its worth it if the product is just bad.

Hope to hear from a representative.

Thank you,

Brooke

Yeah mine is exactly the same. It's staying on when it's on charge but turning off and dying when not on charge, despite being fully charged. Definitely pulling an apple move and trying to get us to buy new ones I think. I'm actually really gutted. My fitbit was really helping with my mental health, keeping me motivated etc, now it's absolutely broken beyond repair it seems and I can't afford a new one. Really disappointed

Hi @Cassandraholley and @Ezzdog_, welcome to the forums.

Thanks to both of you for letting me know about your Alta devices. I see where you're coming from as your tracker should be working to motivate you toward your goals, let me give you a hand with this matter. Before anything else, since your post didn't mention I'd recommend to give a try to the following:

  1. Clean the gold contacts on your Alta and the charging cable.
  2. Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable.
  3. Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  4. If possible, try borrowing a charging cable from a relative or a friend to charge it.
  5. Restart your tracker.

I have been emailing Fitbit for the past few weeks with the same problem.  I got this tracker in May and then it started acting up.  The screen would die and so I would plug it into the charger and it would say it was 1/2 charged.  Then it would last a few days (it used to last 6 days)and now it wont’t fully charge (stops at 75%)  and it dies the same day I charge it.  I have tried all the suggestions- cleaning the contacts, resetting, resyncing, different electrical outlets, etc. and I feel it is just defective.  Don’t know what else to do.

the warranty replacement for this same issue only lasted 5 months. The original broke before the one-year warranty expired. Multiple broken bands as well. It appears that you can’t actually work out with this finicky watch....it can’t seem to handle sweat or daily wear and tear. Might last if you only wear it to bed. Never again

I have tried everything as well. I’ve had my Alta for almost 2 years now with no problems until a couple of months ago.

Hello All

I have been part of this thread from more than a year now and have seen
multiple people complaining of the same issues with Alta.

We have to accept the fact that Fitbit has purposely stoned this device
which is now causing these issues.
Think yourself, till 2018 they used to release updates every 2-3 months.
And this time around there is no update from more than a year.
It clearly shows that they don't want to fix this issue.
Apply your mind guys, and move on. They are not going to do anything.

Same issue. My Alta dies randomly when the battery level shows it still has more than 50% charge. I charge it fully and it lasts maybe 3 days. I've tried all the troubleshooting ideas. This actually a replacement for one that only lasted 4 months before dying completely. I've had this one less than 6 months. I get no warning when it's going to die and it never drops below 50% charge then suddenly it's dead. I try to charge every other night but it's so unpredictable when it will die that sometimes it still dies in the middle of the day, even charging it that often.

Thanks  for all the feedback.  I just didn’t realized this was a common problem with the Fitbit Alta.

I had the same problem with the Alta I bought last April, I just used it 5 times or less. I reported the problem last week since I had the warranty, and received replacement pebble yesterday. Guess what, SAME PROBLEM ON THE REPLACEMENT UNIT! I fully charged it, and when disconnected from the charger, about 30 minutes later, the display died.  When I connected it to the charger again, it turned on, and shows that the battery was almost full.  I reset & restarted it, and charged it full again. When I disconnected it, and walked around about 1 hour, it died again when the battery was about 98% left. I'll call the customer service today, and see what they would do about it.

Mine was doing the same thing. They sent me a replacement and it does it too. Anyone have a clear resolution that I missed?

If it's only 2 months old you are still in warranty.  Get it swapped for a new one.  My first one had this problem, swapped under warranty and the replacement has been perfect since July.
