Alta shutting off

Is anyone else having issues with their Alta randomly shutting off and having to be plugged in to restart? I've had mine since Friday and have had to do it twice. Each time it's happened the battery still says it's full or mostly full. I tried calling the helpline but all I was being told to do was reset and sync. Both of which I've already done.

Ive been looking at amazfit too. Price is tasty 🙂 But then i've found some people using it and turned out that it is pure china thing and app has so many bugs... and almost no progress fixing it...

"bitten fruit" watch was the most dissapointing thing. worktime between charges less than 24h, no sleep tracking, no steps. and it works only with same brand phone.

samsung has some strange behavior like always counting 3 floors instead of 5 🙂 worktime is about 2 days. sleep stages are not always completely present. sometimes there are no deep or rem stage. Hope they'll fix it soon.

I have two FitBit Altas.  The first one was purchased about 4-5 yrs ago.  It started just shutting off randomly.  I thought it was just time to replace.  Replaced with one from Groupon.  Does the exact SAME THING!  and Groupon will not refund me the $ because its been more than 30days.  I would really like to know how to fix this problem.  Now that Google has bought Fitbit out.....nothing will get fixed.  😞

You need to supply at least 4.6v (4.8v) to keep tracker working. The problem is that battery is designed for 3.8v-4.2v. I think that the root of the problem is that after screen is going off, tracker is entering low power mode comparing battery voltage to value that is not correct, effectively turning off tracker to prevent full discharge.

Other way - you can prevent tracker low power mode by keeping screen on all the time. So just instanly raise Your hand like looking at the screen 🙂

Actually it wasnt fixed for years before fitbit is purchased by google. But other fitbit trackers got weird things meanwhile, so things wont get any worse 🙂

So far I'm enjoying the Amazfit Bip. On day 5 and the battery is at 80%! Which is amazing because I have almost everything extra selected that could cause extra battery drain. We will see. I'm just done with fitbit. Of course if people keep buying fitbit why would they fix anything? No pain no gain

I am having the same problem as other people with their Ulta shutting off. I have reset it numerous times. Sometimes I can get 2 days of usage but then it shuts off. Other times I only get a very short time that it will work. Other than restarting it off are there any other soulutions.

Best solution is: buy another brand! I've had good success with the Amazfit. Battery keeps a charge for 3-4 weeks and I have almost every notification possible turned on. Only bummer is I don't have many friends to compete with on Amazfit

Hi. Sorry, there are no fixes that I have found nor can fit bit fix it.
Since the last replacement from fit bit was still under warranty, I
received special pricing on a different one. I ended up choosing the
versa2. So far so good. They no longer make the Alta. 🤐😐

A few friends have the Garmin Vivo and they love it and have had no
problems, and they are reasonably priced!

My daughter has the same issue, unfortunately she has not used her device in a little bit.  She had it in her dresser drawer unused and now that the warranty is over, Fitbit is not willing to do anything about it even though this is obviously a know issue.  Shame you spend so much money on something that should work past a one year warranty but the company is not willing to stand behind their product.  I will not be purchasing any more fitbits for my family.

You have to pay to have for fitbit premium now to hold challenges with your friends anyhow so you aren't missing much

Having the same issues. Support via the chat gave me a discount code to order a new one and said the issue wasn’t common...

THAT is EXACTLY the problem with them. They don't care though. They are boosting numbers for their buyout. Lol
I was set on the Samsung Fit. EVERYTHING I was looking for in the slim size just like the garbage tracker we are ALL here about lol, but for the SLIM price of around$100. You can usually find it for A LOT less, if you are a savvy shopper! I just happened to see a $10 Vivitar tracker though, over Xmas that I snapped up to try out at TARGET. I'll post in a couple of weeks how that works out. Hahaha

I have the same problem. I tried restarting the way they suggested but problem continues. I figured out they put in a too small/weak battery. So if the battery isn't 100% full the voltage drops too far during vibration or other power consuming processes and shuts down.

Yep.  Same problem.

Fully charged... It will just shut down if I don't tap the screen in a while.   It turns right back on the moment I plug it in.

Support wasn't very helpful as their only troubleshooting is to reset it, which I've done a hundred times.    They then offer me a 25% courtesy discount from their online store.  It is funny that even with that discount, the final price ends up the same as Bestbuy's current promotion.  So there isn't really any "courtesy". I pointed this out the the agent, who could only shrug it off.

planned obsolescence?

I already wrote about this problem some time ago in this thread. Look for my post about voltages.

In short - it is a thing to prevent full battery discharge, and it stop working after warranty period ends... for some reason... and alta is not the fitbits only tracker that has its lfe limited to warranty period.

Changing battery does nothing. The only way to trick it is to use higher voltage, but who wants to walk around with exra battery attached to the tracker?

Sounds like planned obsolescence to me.

Is there any other work around besides carrying around an external battery?

Unfortunattely I didnt found any.

I couldnt arrange reflashing firmware, that may be a solution. But it will prevent it from syncing with fitbit anyway.

Maybe china will produce small enough batteries with higher voltage one day... or fitbit alta firmware will be opensource.

I still keep two altas, ionic and versa in the basement while using other brand tracker, just in case fitbit will return to be the The Good Company it once was... 🙂

  • They should sell replacement batteries with a slightly higher voltage.
