My battery charge lasts approximately a week, so there's no problem there. I bought a new charger just a week ago, so the charger isn't the problem. The message that prompts me to recharge shows a battery charge level of approximately 23% when I get the prompt each week. Then the trouble starts.
I plug the charger into my laptop and my Alta, use an alcohol swab to clean all charging points, line things up properly and nothing happens. I press the reset button on the charger three times, pausing between pushes, all completed within a few seconds. Again, nothing happens. These steps are done repeatedly. Meanwhile the battery drains to zero while I'm doing all this and eventually shows an exclamation mark. Still no charge activity until I've left it plugged in for a lengthy period of time which is ridiculous because it showed 23% charge when I first started the procedure.
I am sick and tired of spending so much time trying to coax this thing into charging. I have had this Alta for a little over two years, I think.
I'm so disgusted with this frustrating procedure week after week that I'm thinking of switching to an Apple watch -, unless there's a way to go back to the early days when all I had to do was plug each end in properly and my Alta would charge easily.

I purchased the charger from BestBuy. It's an official Fitbit brand. My previous charger did the same thing - a Fitbit brand as well. I thought that older charger was the problem. It obviously was not.

Fitbit customer support is doing their best, but right now be prepared for longer wait times. Please be patient. Support is limited by the number of representatives available at a given time and the hours of operation. Chat lines are open when they have live help.

Apparently there's no other troubleshooting that can be done. I already try the entire list of troubleshooting actions in order to get this thing charged.
This will be my last Fitbit. I'll probably keep this one a little longer because it still works but at some point when I've run out of patience, I'm going to buy an Apple watch, probably when the Apple 6 model is available. Attempting umpteen times for ten to fifteen minutes or longer to connect the device to the charger so that it finally begins charging should not be the norm for a watch that's only a couple of years old.
FWIW, Fitbit's tech support is not very helpful. They obviously read from a script and if they can't find the problem on their list they get flummoxed. Offering a discount on a new device isn't what I'm looking for. This one is a replacement for a previous Alta that stopped working altogether while still in warranty. I have no desire to go through this rigmarole every couple of years.
