Device not recording Sleep Stages

In my sleep pattern the graph lines are vertical not horizontal across the screen. Looks like it went back to an older version.

Hi @dclark7, It's nice to see you again participating here in the Community Forums, welcome back!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. If you're receiving vertical lines on your sleep graph is because your device didn't recorded Sleep Stages but auto-sleep logs which are simplified. That said,

there are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of Sleep Stages, which are the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results you can  wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Let me know if you require further assistance.

It was the same last night. I tightened it up a bit, so I will see what it reads tomorrow. Thank you.....

Thanks for taking into consideration the steps that were shared on my previous post  To move forward with this, can you please let me know if you continue experiencing difficulties with the Sleep Stages tracking?

Looking forward to your reply.

My device does not show sleep stages when using the automatic monitoring at night. Although it says that using the sleep now button will give you the simplified information, I need to use the sleep now button to get the detailed sleep stages. My device must be wired backwards:)

Your update is appreciated @dclark7. Welcome aboard @Nibbles1. Sorry for the delay in responding your posts.

@dclark7 I'm really happy to know that your issue was resolved. Please do not hesitate to contact me back if you require further assistance or if you have any additional questions for me to answer.

@Nibbles1 Seems odd that you need to use the Sleep Now button in order to receive Sleep Stages. When you don't use such feature, do you receive any error message explaining you the reason why you didn't receive Sleep Stages?

I'll be around.

When I don't use the "sleep now" button I get inconsistent tracking. I sleep for about 5 hours but it only records for less than 3 hours (which it will tell me it needs more than 3 hours to track). No error messages pop up..
