FitBit Alta charges & syncs but doesn't work when unplugged

I have just starting using my FitBit Alta again after 4 years. It syncs and when plugged in to charge displays the time and data OK. But once unplugged it records nothing and the display doesn't work. 

I charged it this morning and took my foster dog out for 50 minutes, synced it and it's showing 0 steps.  

I have tried the restart in the help article several times to no avail & changed the clockface  https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186.htm

I know it's an old model but I am self employed and Covid has almost bankrupted me - I simply can't afford to buy a new one.

Mine is doing the same thing. Restarted several times and it didn't help.

Having the same issue. Will charge and display time and sync while plugged in. As soon as I take off of the charger. NOTHING!!!!

Does anyone have an update on this? My daughters is doing the same thing.
