3 days ago I fully charged my fitbit. Within minutes the display went black. I connected it to the charger and an apostrophe appeared but not the usual charge bar. I followed several troubleshoot guides to no avail. Please can anyone help? Many thanks.

Hi, @Ashton12345 , have you been able to give your Fitbit a restart? That can resolve issues of not holding charge, as it can shut down any background activities that can cause unusual batter drain.
I would suggest putting your Alta on to charge, making sure it is resting properly in the charger. Plug it in to any wall charger that is UL/CE certified and known to be working. Give it two hours charge, even if it does not seem to be working.
When it has had two hours, try the restart procedure:
While it is still plugged in and charging,
Press the button on your charging cable 3 times within a few seconds, briefly pausing between presses. The button is on the end of the charging cable that is plugged into your computer. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, this means the tracker has restarted
If it does not work the first time, it is worth repeating a few times more.
Unfortunately, if that does not work then it is possible that your Fitbit has come to the end of its useable life. As you know, all rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan (which can vary considerably depending on the charging regimen followed).
If it no longer responds despite resetting several times it may be worth getting in touch with Fitbit Customer Support on contact.fitbit.com as I know they are sometimes able to offer loyal customers a discount on upgrading to a newer Fitbit device.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. Welcome to the forums!
