Fitbit app on tablet pairs with wrong device

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a relatively new Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet with Android 8.1.0.  I downloaded the Fitbit 3.25 app today.  I have a new Fitbit Alta HR device and have never tried to use it before today.  The app on the tablet makes a Bluetooth connection to a device I do not recognize.  The app shows me data belonging to someone else (don't know who), including data from yesterday.  Yesterday I didn't have the app installed yet, and I didn't use the Fitbit Alta HR device.

There is only one other Fitbit device close by.  It belongs to my wife and the data I'm seeing is not hers.

Is there a way to clear out the Bluetooth connection information so the app can try again to find the correct device?  Is there a better approach to this problem?  Should I be able to see someone else's data?

"The app on the tablet makes a Bluetooth connection to a device I do not recognize."

What makes you say that?  If it is a device you don't recognize, what device does it say it is?

You say it shows someone else's data.  If it's just a few steps, it will reset to 0 at midnight.  Don't worry about it.

If it is calories, and showing the same number of calories every day of history, those are your BMR (basal metabolic rate) calories.

How does my Fitbit device calculate calories burned?

Thanks for your reply JohnnyRow, and for your follow-up questions.

- I have never used Fitbit.  I just got it out of the box yesterday, and downloaded the app.  It has not been usable yet.  That's why I asked for help.

- The app on the tablet initially showed addresses of a few Bluetooth devices, none of which I recognized.  They were alphanumeric addresses.

- The app did not offer me the option of searching again for other Bluetooth devices.  I did try stopping then restarting Bluetooth on the tablet, and also the app.

- I knew it was someone else's data, such as steps and calories, because I have never used the device.  "Yesterday's" data could not possibly have existed unless it was someone else's data or some sort of test data.

- The device is charged.  When tapped, it just scrolls "fitbit.com/setup" across the screen.

It sounds like you are talking about the Fitbit app, but I don't know anywhere within the Fitbit app that it lists bluetooth addresses found.  Please explain where you saw these.

Or are you talking about in your phone's bluetooth settings?  If so, whatever devices the phone found don't necessarily have anything to do with Fitbit.

The device and app don't sync, for reasons unknown.  I've never seen the device and app work correctly, so I can't answer your questions.  The issue is kind of "stuck" at this point.

What would have helped would have been a step by step guide from the manufacturer for getting the app and device running, but that doesn't seem to be available.

The product information about the Fitbit Alta HR was interesting, and it was certainly worth ordering one.  But ultimately we've decided to just send the device back, rather than spending more time trying to get it running.

Thank you for your kind willingness to help, JohnnyRow.  I appreciate that, a lot.
