Heart rate tracking accuracy

Hi, in the last 2 couple of weeks I have stopped using my fitbit because all of a sudden (since 6th January afternoon, UCT +1) it was giving me heart rates between 30-40 higher than usual. (I double checked with my pulse  and with a finger oxymeter). I tried again last Sunday 19th and the issue continued.

My phone is a simple Motorola.

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks for your help,

Hello @SunsetRunner, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and the details that were shared in your post, seems odd that your Alta HR is measuring your heart rate in such way. First I'd like to explain you how your device tracks heart rate data.

When your heart beats, your capillaries expand and contract based on blood volume changes. To determine your heart rate, the optical heart-rate sensor in your Fitbit device flashes its green LEDs hundreds of times per second and uses light-sensitive photodiodes to detect these volume changes in the capillaries above your wrist. Then your device calculates how many times your heart beats per minute (BPM). The optical heart-rate sensor detects a range of 30-220 BPM.*

We use green LEDS because they maximize the signal detected from the capillaries near the surface of the skin. The optical heart-rate sensor also uses infrared light to determine when the device is on your wrist to improve the accuracy of your heart-rate data. If you believe that such information is not being accurately tracked, please check our help article: How do I improve the accuracy of my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

The exact same thing has happened to me! At the beginning of January my resting heart rate began to spike and has gone up from 70 bpm to 92 bpm in under a month. My heart health also dropped from average to poor. I've tried resetting, wearing my fitbit higher on my arm, logging out of the app and logging back in, none of the tips in the faq are working.

I have an iPhone 8, so it isn't an issue with Motorola. I hope it starts working properly for you!
