1.5 YR OLD CHARGE (original) never used ... won't sync with my Samsung 8

I finally got myself a Samsung 8; first smart phone ever.  I also have one of the original HR CHARGE and it will not sync with my phone.  I've charged the battery to full, turned it one.  My blue tooth isn't finding it either.  Do I reset it and if so how do I reset it.  It was bought for my mom, she never used it, gave it to me.  It's about 1.5 yrs old.  IDEA'S/SOLUTIONS?  Just want to start using it ~ it keeps me motivated and accountable.

Plug in the charger and hold down the button on fitbit for 12 seconds (or till you see the screen go off) to reset it. Hopefully this should help.
