I just got the Fitbit Alta as a Christmas gift and it's not charging or syncing. Does anyone else have an issue with the Galaxy Note 8 and the Alta?

Which phone you have will not affect the ability to charge so it sounds like an issue with the Alta.
Is this what you are doing to try and charge?
- Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or a UL-certified USB wall charger.
- Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display. The battery icon disappears after three seconds.
While the tracker charges, you can tap it to check the battery level. A fully charged tracker shows a solid battery icon.
If this is not working for you then you could try a different USB power source, such as a wall charger you use for a phone.
Once you can get it charged we can try to sort out the connection issue with the Note 8 which should be possible as it's on the list of supported devices at www.fitbit.com/devices

An exclamation mark within a battery symbol means it's critically low on power. Fitbit have a help file for troubleshooting charging problems at: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1190/
Give those steps a try and if they don't work then, as it says at the end, it's probably best to contact customer support.
