Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

now I worry about Q, if they still screw up with Pie, I don't see how this is gonna be better in Q

Best Answer
I'm in the Google Q beta program and my Fitbit Zip will not sync with my
Pixel just like Pie. So it appears the problem continues into Q. There
has not been a permanent fix to the sync issue since my Pixel upgraded to
PIe August 6, 2018.
Best Answer

Of course the Q is in beta so of course it's not stable yet. I would wait and see what happens with the new updates rolling out in the coming months. I'm in Q beta too. My flex 2 and charge 3 sync fine with it for now.

I seriously doubt the sync issue for Zip will ever be resolved it fixed.
Fitbit dropped support for Zip and Fitbit One. Owners have been abandoned,
now and in the future.

Two days ago my Charge 2 suddenly started showing notifications, after not doing it for months.

I hadn't done anything to it.  It just started working.

OMG!  They have finally fixed it I thought.

Bear in mind that my phone has actually been happily syncing with my Fitbit for the last few months after I manually paired and bound it.  But notifications did not work, and that was a real bummer, as notifications is one of the main reasons for wearing the band.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a false dawn...after a day or so they stopped working again.

So today I thought I would disassociate the band, and re-pair it through the app...this couldn't be done before.  To my great surprise, it paired perfectly!  Came out with a pin code, everything.

OMG! I thought.  They have really fixed it!

But...still no notifications.

I give up.  My cats are anaemic, I've killed every mosquito in the house and still no luck.  It's off to Garminstan for me.

My sympathy to the moderators who have clearly been left out to dry by their company, and a lot more sympathy to fellow users whom Fitbit has failed utterly.  I can only think that this company is not a lot longer for this earth if they continue to lie (the product site claims compatibility with Android 5+, and only 3 phones are listed as incompatible), hide the truth (no mention anywhere of Android 9 issues) and provide customers with the horrible customer service experience that they have been doing here.
To all of you, take care, don't get too frustrated (it's just a gadget after all, and now we have an excuse to buy a new one) and see you on the G side.

Phone updated to Android Pie 9 about 2 weeks ago.  Fitbit Zip is not syncing except when I remove the battery and insert the battery back in.  Running version 2.92 on my Moto Z3.

fitbit and android PIE are unreliable. avoid pie and fitbit!!!! . find an alternative. 101 pages of negative posts on their community since august but still solution. WTF?

Best Answer

I had the same experience (Phone on Pie and Alta) which got solved as follows

a) Removed & re-installed Fitbit App (now v 2.92)

b) Excluded from battery optimisation the Fitbit App and the Bluetooth of my Phone (how you do this may slightly vary on the Android Pie implementation on your phone)

c) Removed and re-paired my tracker

Seems to work (for now....)

I have Fitbit  Ionic and Xioami a2 phone with android 9.

Sync and notifications does not work.

Tried the steps above - my tip is: DO NOT unlink your Fitbit from the app.

I did, and can not get it linked back on the phone app.

Buying a google watch tomorrow and will talk down all Fitbit-**ahem** in the future.

I cannot sync my Fitbit Blaze at all. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and your instructions do not work with this phone. Please help otherwise I will have to, as another poster said, ditch Fitbit in favour of another product.

I updated to Android 9 this week and always have to reboot my phone to sync and notifications don't work. Really frustrating. I've been given troubleshooting guidance but nothing has worked so far.

Note 8 here, with latest Android P update.

My watch does sync, but rarely on its own.  I am getting frequent "restart bluetooth" messages. When I restart it, it will sync pretty reliably for a short period of time, and then it stops working.  The other day, my watch went 24 hours without syncing because I hadn't been in the app to restart bluetooth.  I get no notification at all on my watch anymore.  It used to work almost flawlessly - enough to rely on it and have my phone muted 24/7.  Now I've had to take my phone out of mute.

I checked the battery optimization setting and it is already set to not optimized.  I do not have a setting named Background Restrictions or Background limits on my phone.
