Whenever I try to record a walk in the android app, it will instead start to record a run. How do I fix this?

I'm a new fitbit user, and I was about to purchase an actual device but hadn't yet  Recorded several walks manually using this app, and I'm like...what is happening? A run? I thought maybe I was moving too fast to be considered a walk. My other concern here with the app is that it takes over the screen and makes you pause the run (walk) in order to make use of your phone at all. Is this new, or normal?

It will keep running in the background on Android. I used Google Nav while
recording my walks and it didn't interrupt anything. This new thing of
always recording a run is very irritating though. I'm not going to bother
logging again until it's fixed.

Hi. The recording walks/hikes as runs is a new thing; sounds like an app update snafu that's affecting quite a few people. I'm still able to use my phone while I'm recording an activity.

Possibly related to this, Driving is now a goal-filling activity. I ticked
off two days of activities by recording drives to get rid of steps recorded
while I slept or commuted.

Any thoughts on how to fix?

So every time I log a walk on my GPS on the app, when I finish the app changes it to a run.

It's definitely on the walk setting when I start.

Running the app on a Samsung Galaxy S6, Charge 2 HR.

My wife was experiencing the same issue on her Charge 3 on Samsung Galaxy S6, but seems to have stopped since she upgraded her phone to a S9.

It is more annoying than anything, just a bit frustrating.

Any thoughts?

On my phone app I go our for a walk, start the map/GPS feature make sure the drop down menu beneath the map is set to 'Walk'. Come home check the logged record, it shows the route on the map but it us labelled 'run. I have checked this several times, pretty certain I am not missing anything but it keeps on logging my walks as runs. Which us frustrating and confusing. An I missing something or have I got a dud?

There seems to be a few people having problems with this feature at the moment, so Id suggest doing nothing and hopeing it gets fixed soon.

It is a pain to do but this is what I've figured out to do in the meantime. I keep the run on my phone. Open the "run" on your phone and scroll over to "impact". I go to the dashboard on the website and choose the area for activities. Scroll all the way to the bottom. There you can manually enter a walk. I enter the data from the impact screen on my phone because that way you don't lose steps. Then, go back and delete the run. You do lose the map and it is a pain in the butt. But it does keep my log pretty accurate.

@GemD It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community! Sorry to hear that your Walking activity is being saved as a Run activity. Try logging out from the app, restart your phone and log back in. You can also go to settings > apps > Fitbit and clear the cache data there.

Let me know how it goes!

I like to go on long walks & utilize the app's GPS feature  & voice cues for details. I've used it many times. Recently, even tho I've chosen "walk", the results read "run". The voice cues are also not working even tho the volume is turned on "high" on my smartphone. I've deinstalled & reinstalled the app, checked my phone volume settings & that my phone & Charge 3 are paired properly.

I contacted Fitbit about this and they know they have an issue with their app and are working on the solution.

Logging run instead of the hike that I selected.  This was working properly until a week or so ago.

I'll bet the new version has a bug where the exercise picked doesn't matter and they all default to run.

You'd think they'd have some user metrics in place for their app team.  All activities being tracked as run and no walk or hike activities after their release seems like a product owner might notice and correct.

Mine is doing the same. I either set for "walk" or "hike", but either way it resets to "run".

The last two times I went on a walk and tracked it through the app, when I finished my walk, I noticed it was logged as a run in my activities. The first time I thought I had chosen the Run option by mistake when having it track my current activity. But today, I went into the app to add an activity, clicked on tracking, made sure it was set to walk, and then started it. When I finished my walk, I was looking at the stats and noticed that it said Run instead of Walk again. I don't know why it would be doing this. I checked for a firmware and app update and they are both up to date. I have the app on my Google Pixel 2. Any help would be appreciated.
