Trying to get the widget to show me my distance. It's set as my primary goal but the widget will only show me calories burned. Anyone else had this issue?

Running on Pixel 5 with latest OS and using Fitbit from a pixel watch

Hi everyone,

Thanks for keep adding your comments to report this issue with your primary goal widget on your phone. Please keep your phone and Fitbit app on your watch updated. Since this has helped other users. Note: recently we released Android Fitbit app 3.70. You can also make sure to check that detail.

Then try the following steps in that order:

  1. To confirm that the Fitbit app on your watch is up-to-date >Press the crown.
  2. Swipe up to the Play Store app, and tap the app to open it.
  3. Swipe up and tap Manage apps.
  4. Update all. (To check for system updates, see Check for updates.)
  5. Force quit the Fitbit app.
  6. Restart your phone with the widget setup.

Hope this helps.

I have the same issue.

I have set the main goal on my Pixel Watch to steps but when I add the Primary Goal on ot my home screen it only shows calories.

I'm using the current app on a P7P.

Same issue, cannot get the widget to show my primary goal which is steps. It only shows calories, which I am not interested in tracking.

Best Answer

yup, same issue. I've checked that my Primary Goal is Steps on both the website and in the app settings. I've restarted both my phone and my tracker. I'm using the Pixel Watch and the Pixel 7. Everything is up-to-date.

Same issue - looking to track steps on the widget. Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel Watch.

Same issue, Pixel 7 Pro, latest OS, using Pixel Watch after upgrading from a Charge 2. It seems like it's either the pixel watch or upgrading to FitBit Premium which must be causing the issue.

I had difficulty with this also. This is what worked for me (Pixel Watch & Pixel 5 Phone):

- First, make sure that all apps are updated on phone and pixel watch.

  • Check the watch apps by going opening Play Store on the watch
  • Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap on "Manage Apps" and then "Update all" (assuming there are any apps to update). Prior to doing this I wasn't able to sync Fitbit to the watch which is what was causing the problem.

- Then open the Fitbit app on your phone and go to your profile

- Select "Google Pixel Watch" from the listing

- Change "Main Goal" to any of the options available

- Exit out and go back to the "Today" dashboard

- Pulldown to force a sync with the watch

Assuming you have added the "Main Goal" tile in the "Watch" app, you should see it...... Hopefully this helps.

Thanks but didn't work for me. The widget on my phone is still showing calories. I'd say there's some sort of bug in the widget that Fitbit/Google need to fix.

Best Answer

Did not help. I have tried everything including adding all permissions, adding Fitbit/Google Fit/Pixel Watch exception on Google One VPN, and contacted Customer Service with no luck yet. Customer Service said they will be reaching out to me once they come up with a solution but this seems like a bug that needs to be worked out through an app update on both the Fitbit and Google Fit app. Hopefully this gets resolved because this is a nice feature to see your step metric on your widget.

Do you not know what words mean? You cannot say in one and the same message that you are not going to fix the problem and that you are always working to improve your products.

I've reported this very issue to the fitbit team and I've heard nothing since. Additionally the Android app is now asking me to accept T&Cs every time I open it. The web dashboard apparently not compatible with the Pixel Watch. Not a very good introduction to fitbit. Very poor!

I'm using a Pixel 7 Pro.

Samsung S22 Ultra here. Same issue. As soon as I paired my Pixel Watch to the phone the widget immediately changed to calories burned from steps and now it won't switch back. Tried everything in here and nothing worked. I hope this gets fixed sooner than later.

Same here. Have been trying to find a solution for days. Nothing works.

Same here. No way to reset the primary goal widget. As I'm reading, it is a systemic issue it seems.

The Pixel watch also doesn't stay real time connected to the Fitbit app, so I can't see the current heart rate in the Fitbit app. I also regularly get "can't connect to the Pixel Watch" errors.

It seems to me that Google and Fitbit very much want to have dedicated users of each product, and don't want the two to work together. As Pixel Watch forces you to use the Fitbit app, that is a shame. I'm a very loyal Fitbit user and Google product user. Don't buy the company and advertise that the products work together if you still wall off features between one or the other.

@slconline15 The "can't connect to the Pixel Watch" errors was resolved for me when I manually updated the apps on the watch via the Play store. I had this problem when I first purchased it and it was super frustrating. Regarding the primary goal widget, do you mean the primary goal tile on the watch or the main widget in the app? You using iPhone or Andriod?

I am using a pixel 7vand pixel watch and having the same issue. My pixel watch tracks my steps but the widget on the phone will not change from calories to steps

There's a similar post 'Android widget not showing primary goal using Pixel watch' that explains that it's a known issue without a solution at this time. While that's a bummer, at least it's not something we are doing wrong or something we should know to do. It's also a bit confusing that we have to navigate all these threads to get to the bottom of an issue. Hope you find this useful.
