App adding thousands of steps with no reason

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The android app hasn't worked properly for a few days, showing more steps than the real ones when syncing. Most of the times, the total count will be correct the day after, so it's just annoying for a bit; but for a couple of times it has suddenly added thousands of steps (8000 once, and 5000 the second time) and these have been saved, changing the real calories spent and distance. The problem seems to be due to the app, not the band.

@Car81 Hi there. Thank you for the details mentioned.

I see where your disappointment is coming from. I'd like you to make sure that there aren't manually logged activities that could be adding extra steps to your daily count. Also if you have more than one tracker at a time, make sure that you're wearing one a time, this to ensure that you don't get the data mixed up, learn more about it by checking this article Can I use more than one Fitbit device with the same account?

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer. None of the causes you mention seems to be the problem here. I haven't added any activities, I just let the band detect the exercise automatically, and I just have one device.

Since I started this query, the problem has persisted, showing more steps than it should every time I sync, although it only saved the changes once more from one day to another, adding around 2000 steps and some calories that weren't real.

As an example, here you have what the app is showing today, just in the morning. Everything is right except for the steps, that according to the band would be around 1900 steps.

Here are a couple of examples of what the app shows when it adds steps that are not real and they're saved

Yesterday I uninstalled the app and downloaded it again. It has worked properly since then. Let's see if the problem is solved this way. I'll consider your solution if it happens again.

Anyway, thanks for your help and nice day for you too!!

I have the same issue, but I at least know where my extra steps come from. I ride a motorcycle and the vibrations are seen as steps. It would be nice if I could edit out the extra steps, or if there were a mode that I could suspend tracking of steps. The other option would be for your step algorithm to realize that 150 steps per minute or more should not be counted as steps.

@AlanWR Hi there. Thank you for the details mentioned.

In order to override the steps or floors tracked while you were riding your motorcycle, log driving as an activity in your app by doing the following:

  1. Tap the Today tab

  2. On the Exercise tile

, tap the + icon > Log or Log Previous.
  3. Choose Driving as the exercise type. Make sure the exercise details overlap with the time period your device logged the unwanted steps or floors.
  4. Tap Add or Log it. Your steps, floors, and calories burned will decrease for the time period you specified.

Also you may want to vote and comment on this idea, these are reviewed by our team and the status will change depending on Fitbit plans.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I tried that, called it motorcycle, went back several days and
added that. The extra steps vanished. I deleted that added exercise and the
steps returned. This is precisely the answer I was hoping for. Thank you!
