App sync with GPS

My Fitbit app on my phone won't update without my GPS on. It used to. What happened?

When Google released Android 6 they made it a requirement to have location services on in order to sync over bluetooth.

Okay thanks. I do have an Android, and have had the phone for months as well. This just started in the last day or two

It is location that needs to be on.. Gps is optional, since any of the 3 location settings will work. 

Also during a sync there is no request made for location.. This is at richly an is thing as @SteveH mentions.
