App won't stay connected to watch for GPS tracking

I'm having an issue with my charge 3 and connecting to my phone for tracking a bike ride.

I have been in contact with the charge 3 community to try  and solve it, but i'm now fairly certain it's an issue with android and the app.

Basically i have the app permissions to fully allow the app for location and it is not optimized for battery and allowed to run in the background. It was working great for about 2-3 weeks, tracked all my rides fine, then one day it just stopped working. It will connect to my phone for about 2 seconds, the disconnect, then reconnect and disconnect and it will just constantly do this the whole time im trying to track the ride, it will never actually track any usable data.

The only thing i think changed between it working and not working was i ran the device maintenance on my phone, this will close any background apps running. After running that utility the fitbit app no longer works properly to connect to my phone, even though in the settings all permissions are on, and battery optimization is still turned off and the app is able to run the background. I've managed to get it working once by uninstalling everything, doing a hard reboot on my watch, rebooting my phone and reinstalling everything. But now those steps don't help.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy s7

Android version: 8.0

Charge 3 FW: 28.20001.60.39

Fitbit app version: 2.92

@KevinA89 Welcome! It's good that the community is growing!

I will assist you with your GPS tracking and thank you for troubleshooting this issue. I suggest you try refreshing the link between your phone and your device by going to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there. Restart your phone and restart your device. After this try syncing them. You can find additional suggestions here.

Let me know how it goes.
