Best non-contract AT&T phone to use...

I want/need to buy a new cell phone, so I'm trying to find out which ones, AT&T specific, work best with Versa. I don't have a contract-type phone and would prefer to stay that way, but want to stay with AT&T.

I know Samsung has no-contract phones which work. A friend has a Samsung Core Prime basic smart phone and uses it to sync her Zip.
