Hey everyone! Cross-posting this from the Blaze forum. It may be useful to use eachother and this post as resources for setting up and using notifications on Android phones.

Blaze will provide Call, Text, and Calendar notifications- this way you can stay connected!

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the content of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Blaze, please see this help page

Setup Steps:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby! Note that you'll only receive notifications on your tracker when your mobile device is within this radius.
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap Notifications, and then turn on call notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, look at the list of Bluetooth-connected devices on your mobile device. Your tracker name should appear.

Using Alerts:

You can easily see all of your alerts by swiping up from the home screen. Here, you'll see previous incoming calls, text messages for the day, and calendar alerts as well. You may delete these alerts either individually or all at once.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App. Please also ensure that message preview is toggled on in your phone's settings, as this should help populate the message content.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or select 3rd party apps on Android.
  • Fitbit trackers currently don't support emojis. Notifications containing emojis will show a blank square, instead of the emoji that was sent.
  • Text messages won't show up if the message app is open on your phone.
  • When using Message+, your Fitbit tracker will show a notification that looks something like this: (Contact Name – 1 New Message). This is because when messages are received in Message+, they're stored that way in the notifications center on Android.
  • If you receive more than one text message in succession from the same person, your tracker may group the messages together as "2 New Messages" or "3 New Messages" instead of showing a preview of the message text.

Switching to a Different App:

In order to switch to receiving text notifications from a different app, the app must be selected as the default messaging app on your mobile device.

After selecting a default message app, do the following:

1. Open the Fitbit App
2. Select your device from the Dashboard
3. Tap the device again from the device menu
4. Select “Call and Text Notifications”
5. Select “Text Notifications”
6. Select your preferred app

Very nice, thanks. I do get call notifications but they are not saved in the noti area as are text messages. Once I answer the call the notification is gone. In other words, previous incoming calls are not logged or available to view. If you can also fix the outgoing call displaying as incoming call that would be great.

Posted this elsewhere but thought a mod might see it here:

Having had a look at the guidance and the forum I feel like I must be being stupid but cannot work out how to get noticications towork on my new blaze. I have paired the watch with my phone (samsung S5 - should be compatible and is up to date etc) and it syncs fine. I have gone into the phone settings and turned on call notification and messaging/calendar notifications, my blaze is enabled to access my phone and I have turned on notification and pop ups on my phone for calls and messages. On my blaze there is no option for notifications in the settings menu (as the guide suggested) but if I swipe down on the watch screen it says notifications on/off and this says on. So all this seems to be set up correctly but when I get a mesage or a call nothing happens on the watch. What am I missing? - I have tried restarting the blaze, restarting my phone and unpairing, removing the app and starting again, nothing has made nay difference.

Open the dashboard on your android. Click on Blaze and then Blaze again. Under general Call and Text notifications what do you have selected?

Call notification enabled contacts, messages enabled messenger (I also use WhatsApp but not as much, I do not have messenger + installed on my phone). I even have a notification on my lock screen to tell me notifications are enabled from fitbit.

Under BT do you also have Blaze classic connected?

Not at the moment, I did have it connected but wasn't getting notifications and someone on a different forum said it might interfere so I turned it off again. That shouldn't be needed though should it?

I have them both installed but only classic connected. Try connecting with classic to see if that works. It was the only way to get my music controls working. But notifications work too for calls and messages. I'm using whatsapp but I had messenger working earlier today too.

@SunsetRunner My Blaze is connected to a Galaxy Note III, so that is a difference, however you shouldn't have to connect to Blaze Classic in BT.  The manual states that is for using the music controls.  You should only need to connect to the other option, just Blaze.  In one of your previous posts it sounded like you're using two texting applications.  If you are, do you have one of them marked as your default?  I only use Messages so it is my default, maybe this is confusing it if it doesn't know which one to use.  Maybe try removing the second texting app, just to see if you can get the Messages app to work.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the input. It has now started working - wierdly not after I had changed anything but when I was about to give up and see if I could return it. No answer as to why it went wrong but seem to be fixed.

No you cannot. At least not at this time. Hopefully, a software / firmware update will allow that in the future.

Just adding to this post since I scanned through the old one and don't see this issue here- I am getting duplicate notifications for text message on my phone. I have an HTC M9 and use Textra as my default app. If I switch to HTC's stock app it works fine. I really like Textra and don't want to move back to the stock app. I have seen a couple people post about this but haven't seen a solution yet.

I also noticed that I got 3 notifications for my calendar event that I had today, although I am not sure if that is a recurring issue since I haven't had any more events since then and haven't tested it. Wonder if that depends on if you have the calendar app set to remind you multiple times or if that is controlled by Fitbit?

Whatsapp is giving doubles if I don't look right away. I really hope someone fixes this quickly. Even an ETA would be extremely helpful.

I'm using a Samsung S6 Edge with Textra texting app.  I get double notifications for each text message I receive.  Does anyone know how to avoid the duplicate alerts/notifications on the Blaze for each 1 text I received?

It's problem for anyone using Textra and a couple other SMS messaging apps. No solution has been found yet as far as I know. I think it will come down to Fitbit having to release a patch.

Hi. I have a Droid Maxx and have been trying to get my notifications and music controls to show up on the Blaze for several days now. Still no luck. I've gone in and from reading everyone’s posts, I think that all of my "Show notifications" are clicked. I also get the "Fitbit Notification" - notifications are running on my phone; however, they are not showing up on my Blaze.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong 😞

I did want to ask about the reference to two Blaze options in Bluetooth. On the Blaze, I only see “Bluetooth classic” and it shows on. On my phone, I also only show the "Blaze (Classic)” and it shows connected. I don't show just a "Blaze" option to select. Should there be two??  I've tried searching again under Bluetooth and only the Classic keeps showing up for me.
