Bugs with the Food Log on the app

The Android app seems to get worse with every update. I really dread using it now.

Many times when trying to change a portion size it'll change right back to the previous number. i.e. I'll pull up "Raisin Bran" and it'll have 1 cup pre-entered. I change the 1 to a 2 (or a 1.5, or any number other than 1) and it immediately re-enters the 1. I try deleting the 1 first, backspacing over it, highlighting it and typing over it, nothing works. Eventually it'll work, after dozens of tries. This used to happen occasionally and only to certain entries, but now it happens much more frequently and to more items.

Also, after adding items, many times I'll have to open and close the food log to get it to update the calorie count.

When entering a search term from the food log, it starts searching and brings up a list of results—then suddenly the search term disappears and it switches over to the "recent" tab and I have to re-enter the search.

These things have been happening for a long time and I keep hoping each update would fix them, but they remain.

2 years on there is still the same bug. When trying to edit a previously entered amount of food the app will change it back almost immediately that the new value is entered. I guess this bug is not being taken seriously if it's still here 2 years on?

Glad I'm not the only one. This has been an issue since I've been using the app on Android. Running latest version of Android on Pixel 2xl

Really annoying isn't it! I can't believe that they are serious about fixing this. Every time you try and change a value it defaults to some previous value....

Not just you at all. I go through the change, backspace backspace backspace, realise that it's already reverted, backspace, backspace, backspace, change value, watch it change back,  backspace, backspace, backspace, change it,  backspace, backspace, backspace, change it again,  backspace, backspace, backspace, enter, wait, wait, wait, see that it hasn't changed yet, hit Save, look on the today screen, realise that it changed on me just as I hit "Log this", go back and edit again. On this last edit after going back, it usually stays.

Ha ha, got a kick out of your "play by play" 😆

I think it's safe to assume at this point nothing is going to be done about this. Fitbit seems to put all their resources into pushing new products. I thought once they partnered with Google there'd be some big improvements since Google has the $$$ and the talent, but no appreciable improvement so far.

I assume my play by play is very familiar. I'll also assume there won't be anything done about it, although my hope is that the new ownership means there's going to be an entirely new app at some stage because this one has so many little bugs that add up to frustration. If I have the computer open, I go to the dashboard and log food there now to save the backspacing.

Still seeing this issue as of April 2022.
 - Samsung Galaxy S9

 - Android version 10
 - Fitbit app version 3.57

Another issue I always see with food logging is that when you use custom foods, the macronutrient breakdown displayed for the day regularly 'forgets' the macronutrient components of your custom foods, and just tallies them as uncategorized calories. So I'll have 10% of my calories as Fat/Protein/Carbs and then 90% as uncategorized calories. The only way I've found to fix it is to either force-close the app, or select every single food item you've logged that day, and it'll recategorize the calories as you select each custom food.
