My dashboard shows that I have burned 2,000 calories. My weight loss deficit is set at 1,000 calories. So my understanding is, if I burn 2,000 calories with a goal of a 1,000 calorie deficit, I would consume 1,000 and meet that goal. However, when I logged my food, I had consumed only 462 calories and it stated I was OVER my goal by 15 calories. Now I would like to think I'm not that dumb, but am I missing something? That seems completely off to me.

Hi there @Hittka, nice to see you have joined to the Fitbit Community! I'm sure you are not doing anything wrong, but the food plan might get tricky in occasions.
The example you are describing is correct, however you have to consider the food plan tool will update based on your daily exercise. So as you log your food, your daily calorie and macronutrient estimates will constantly update to show how much you can still eat for the rest of the day while staying within your goal zone.
As long as you are within 50 calories of your daily estimate when you log your last meal, you will have met your plan's recommendation for the day.
However in general terms this is how it works, but to have a closer look I would like to request a screenshot of what you are seeing with your food section. If you agree you can use the following post to learn more about uploading images in the Fitbit Community.
I'll be looking forward to your response. See you until then.
