I often want to quickly check how I am doing for the day in terms of how many calories I've burned, and how many calories I have left.
However, I frequently encounter this problem. On both the Food interface, and the top screen in the app, the numbers are not accurate, as you can see in this screenshot:
I try switching between screens, sliding down on the top screen to sync with my Charge 3, and I've even fully closed the program, cleared the app cache, and restarted, and yet the incorrect numbers persist.
Usually it correctly adds up again after some undetermined waiting time, possibly hours later. But, as soon as I add another food item, more often than not, the totals do not update.
This is all local data, there is no justifiable reason why totals should not be accurate. Addition is maybe the most fundamental thing any computer can do, it reflect very poorly on the app developers that somehow they have made it so that simple addition can not be counted on to work.
I first reported this to customer support well over a year ago, and it has not been addressed, so I have little hope that it will be fixed. Fitbit seems too preoccupied with rolling out new features of dubious utility than it is in making the fundamentals work accurately.
I'm only with Fitbit for now because other brands are worse, not because Fitbit is better. I'm hoping one day that will change one way or the other.

@Dave_M_G Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the screenshot attached and the detailed information shared.
I appreciate the troubleshooting performed prior to posting. I see where your frustration is coming from.
This calories eaten issue has been fixed with the latest app update (3.41), however, this is a phased rollout, which means that not everyone will get it at the same time. As soon as it's available to you, install it and test it out.
Thank you for your understanding.

I have the version 3.41.2 update on dashboard my calories are still not adding up correctly even if i go to "yesterday" the days are all out on dashboard.? I'v got to go into the food dairy history to get the correct amount of calories for that day.? The past week i'v eat more calories thinking i had plenty of calories left over but i did not. Starting to get back on top of this issue and not trusting calories on dashboard. I have deleted cache & data force shut down of fitbit app and then restarted phone but made no difference SADLY.? Also the adding of food don't always stay log in dairy which is really bad and many people most likely don't even look just trusting the app which is a big mistake these days. I could see people quitting over these issues. If you can't trust the food dairy calorie system can we trust what else we are looking at.?

I reported back in April that the Fitbit Android app does not add up numbers correctly. I was told then that "This calories eaten issue has been fixed with the latest app update (3.41), however, this is a phased rollout."
I don't know how long a "phased rollout" is supposed to take, but as of today, nearly half a year later, the Android app still does not accurately add up numbers:
The total in the above interface should be 2,075, but the total is shown to be 1,375.
It also does not update to the accurate number when returning to the home screen:
Sometimes force-stopping the app and reopening it forces the numbers to be updated, but not always.

Updated to version 3.47 a few days ago. Fonts in the Food interface have changed.
When adding new calories in the Food interface, it seems to update the "Cal in" number almost right away.
However, when switching back to the home screen, the "calories in" number does NOT update reliably. Sometimes not until hours later when I add a new calorie input, and it surprises me by showing that I actually have way less calories left in my deficit than it first seemed.
Amazing that Fitbit developers find it so hard to simply get all the relevant numbers updated immediately.
