Hi there @Stacyinwis, welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community! Certainly this is not a normal behavior. Would you mind to share a screenshot of what you are seeing? This will allow me to have a closer look and identify the issue you are describing. To learn how to upload screenshot to our community the following post might come handy.
As you already know, joining challenges does not require additional log in permissions.To start a challenge you just need the Fitbit app for iOS, Android, or Windows 10. After you open the app, tap the Challenges tab to get started and then tap a specific challenge. Find the option to invite other players and choose among your Fitbit friends and contacts.
