I desperately need my fit but charge 2 to sync with my Galaxy 9. The reason I have a fit bit is so I can read SMS and see incoming calls as my phone needs to be on silent. Are they ever going to be compatible or do I need to buy a samsung watch ?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @mel_ryan78! As you already know, the S9 is currently not on our list of supported devices. Which means that our Android team has not yet tested them for compatibility and added them to the list what means that we don't have a estimated date on when they will be added. If the device supports BLE (AKA Bluetooth 4.0), that would be an explanation of why you could be able to setup and sync your Charge 2 with the S9. So, you can try the tips on the following help article: My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.
In addition, I recommend double check the following:
I'd like to mention, just to be sure, that when a device is not supported we cannot guarantee its functionality with the Fitbit app. It might work at a certain time and then it can stop working out of nowhere after an update. This is because the app is not optimized to that device and any change could impact the performance. The developer team is aware of the need to add new devices to the list of compatible devices.
Let me know if you need further assistance!

You'd think they would be on top of this. I am frustrated on not being able to use my Fitbit with my new phone the Galaxy S9

I totally agree and I am disgusted that this is August and still not supported. The phone was released several months ago. I'm a software developer so I understand how supporting multiple things can be tricky, but at this point this phone should be supported. The app was ok fine until I stupidly updated thinking they would have officially supported it by now. The last update broke it amd texts and calls no longer show. Shame on you fitbit for almost 4 months after the s9 was released the Charge 2 is still unsupported. I wish the play store allowed me to rollback my app because I would do that right now to at least get some functionality out of it.again. I hope this will be resolved soon.

Although the S9 is still not on the list of compatible phones at www.fitbit.com/devices it seems that a number of people have managed to get theirs working ok.
Have a look at the following thread. Hopefully some of the tips in there will work for you:

I continue to have issues synching. Sometimes it works but most of the times it doesn't. The S9 has been out for nearly 6 months and its frustrating this hasn't been fixed.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Restarting fitbit
Reinstalling app
Repairing Fitbit via bluetooth
Turning off bluetooth on my old iPhone
I can't even pair my charge 2 with my phone anymore.
Any other amazing tricks that might work?

Is there an update on compatibility? This S9 has been out for quite a while so there is no reason it hasn't been fixed yet.
