Charge 3 requires Android 5.0 or higher

Just thought I'd post this because I'm sure some of the other posters on this forum are having the same issue. I was trying to connect my new Charge 3 with my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini - a supported device - and after I finally managed to set it up using my Windows 10 computer (it wouldn't even start the setup with the app on my phone) it would sync to my phone. Once. Then if I wanted to sync it again I'd have to uninstall & reinstall the app - nothing else worked - and after a few days even that didn't work. (There were issues syncing it to the computer as well.) Finally I got this email from Fitbit Tech support:

"After further review, we noticed you are currently using the version 2.75.1 of the Fitbit app on your phone.

Beginning with version 2.76 of the Fitbit app for Android, you must have the Android operating system 5.0 or higher installed on your phone. You can continue to use version 2.75 of the Fitbit app to sync your tracker however we won't be able to provide support.

We're constantly striving to improve the Fitbit app and allow our users to take advantage of all the latest advances in technology. In order to do this, we occasionally must drop support for older operating systems.

You can continue using your tracker with your phone in order to sync it or if you have access to a mobile device with a newer OS version, you may try to use it."

My S4 Mini is running Android 4.4.2 and it won't upgrade to 5.0 or higher, so it is too old to use with the Charge 3. I took it back and got a Charge 2, which is working perfectly out of the box except that it won't push text/call notifications from my phone. Turns out that's also because the phone isn't running the latest version of the app (according to customer support). But at least the rest of it is working well. Today.

@KJoanne403 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I hope you're doing well! Thank you so much for posting about your experience with your phone and your Charge 3. As you are aware older OS version aren't supported anymore but I am happy that the Charge 2 is working fine. This information may help other members in the same situation.

I'll be around!
