Charge 6 won't download ECG PDF

Fitbit charge 6 won't download ecg pdf. I tried deleting app cache. Reinstalling Fitbit app.turnimg blue tooth off and on. Hard restart of phone and watch. It shows the pdf ready to download but when I try it just gets stuck. I have a Motorola phone with Android 12. It was previously working with a charge 5 that died. I also made sure all the permissions are on.

Sorry to hear you are still having issues with downloading the PDF. I did the downgrade to 4.25.2 and it is working now. I have a Motorola phone using Android 12. I think I will wait to try the new update until others verify it works.

What version of Android are you running on your phone?

I don't think I've ever seen a hardware/software firm do this before but it looks like Fitbit are into doing the right thing. They just downgraded the Fitbit app to 4.28.1 today. The problem is they should downgrade it back to 4.25.2 to get both the syncing and ECG PDF issues resolved.

@DaPash can you check if the downgrade is available for your Android 14 device and if it is, does it resolved the ECG PDF download issue?

I uninstalled 4.28.2 then downloaded the app from the Play Store which is now 4.28.1

Unfortunately I still can't get a pdf of an ecg on my Android 14 phone.

Best Answer

I'm sad to read that @DaPash because unlike the rest of us who were able to downgrade the Fitbit app with help from the Mirror, you can't because you're on Android 14

Here's the thing about ECGs on Fitbit devices. Google had to invest a lot of time, resources and money to get FDA approval as Class I SaMD (Software as Medical Device) for their wearables. It would be a shame for everyone if they get that licencing pulled due to complaints. In other words, they need to fix this ASAP

Wow another Fitbit app change just dropped, which brings it to version 4.28.3

@DaPash it's time to check ECGs again 😁

Installing 4.28.3 on my phone running Android 14 did not resolve the issue of not being able to get a pdf for an ecg on my Charge 6.

FitBit Version 4.28.3
Still no ability to download ECGs, one of the main reasons I bought the Sense 2, this issue is going on far far too long for a flagship feature.

Totally agree! This needs a fix!
Can this problem be elevated in the Fitbit Tech world?

---

This problem has been resolved in my case and the cause was user error. While I still can't see anything in Notifications,  my list of ecg results does appear in the ecg tile under Health assessments when you go together to the You section of the phone app. But you have to scroll to the right to find it.

---

Go to support.google.com/fitbit/answer/14236718

That explains where the ecg history is listed and you can download a pdf from there. It works on my Galaxy S24+ running Android 14 and the current version of the Fitbit app.

@DaPash "This problem has been resolved in my case and the cause was user error."

Just to clear up some unnecessary confusion introduced in this thread, the problem still has not been fixed.

The "You" tile is where I've always accessed and downloaded ECG PDFs, until it became impossible with version 4.26 of the Fitbit app.

I thought maybe Fitbit silently fixed the issue so I updated my app this morning and the problem still exists. I had to revert back to version 4.25.2 of the app using the Mirror in order to continue having access to ECG PDF downloads.

I still cannot download / create the PDF with the latest app version. It
hangs. Sense 2, Android 11.

  • Thank you for testing it.  I guess I will just stick to 4.25.2 for as long as possible.  Bit of a drag to individually authorize app updates but 🤷‍:female_sign:

Hello @Smokingmonkey , @Techgranny1950 , @Flybit , @DaPash , @Ken789 , and all

I've gotten confirmation that this issue has been escalated to the team. However, I don't have a timeline when the problem will be fixed. As soon as I get an update, I'll report back.

Please let me know too. I have same problem Android 11 Samsung S10.  Seems to be due to this fitbit app version only having access to media and mot all files.  Stops all report downloads so I have to download on another device with the app on. Many thanks.

Thank you milion times for efforts. I bought fitbit 6 to take ecg reports for my family members, as some in different age struggle with their hearts.

We are devastated. The most important functionality, crucial for medical purposes, is not working. This is a huge embarrassment for a company that markets its product as flagship, charges significantly more than the competition, and fails to deliver basic functionality.

The problem occurs across various platforms; people are reporting it everywhere, yet no action is being taken. Shame on Fitbit – money down the drain.

I just purchased my wife a Charge 6 for the express reason of getting ECG reports and the download function is still not working using App version 4.30, running on a Galaxy S10 with Android 12.

Not impressed that this SW bug still persists 3 months after it was first reported on this forum, Google.  What gives?

And here we are in January 2025 and as far as I can tell, still no fix!

It's an incredibly long time to leave people out in the cold on such a vital feature. They have an incentive to keep it that way as it pushes people to buy another phone with latest Android

One of the moderators reported that Google is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.  However, I have no idea if this ECG PDF download issue is related to an App software bug or an Android OS update, but it is pathetic that 7 App software updates have been released since the ECG PDF download function last reportedly worked in App 4.25, with no fix.

After all, the ECG function was first added to the Charge 5 a very long time ago, so you would think that Google would have gotten it right by now.
