Welcome to the Fitbit Forums @BillG012260! It sounds weird, but it happens that the tracker gets confused when you have set the same time for both workouts. What I recommend is setting all the workouts to a different time and turn off all the ones you don't need. You can do that in the tracker's settings and it has to see as in the following image:
Remember to sync after doing that to see the changes reflected on your tracker. I also invite you take a look to the SmartTrack article to better understand how this works.
I hope this helps. Let me know the outcome.

Peter - do I understand correctly that SmartTrack doesn't work when you hit the button to track a workout, but does work the rest of the time? So if I want it to automagically recognize 10 minutes of running (hey, I'll be 64 tomorrow, and am edging toward fitness), I do the running *without* the press-and-hold bit?

If it's still appearing as workout it could be that you're pressing its button during the exercise. That does not auto - categorize the activity and will appear with the "workout" name @BillG012260.
Welcome to the Forums @JanetMMcC! As you have mentioned, SmartTrack does not work if you hit the button to track the activity, but it starts auto-recognizing the activity. It will track your ten minutes of running or any other exercise as soon as it starts to feel that you're exercising.
Hope this clarifies your concerns.
