How do I delete some data to free up space on my Galaxy Tab?

Hi @Rich. and welcome to the Community.  I moved your post to the Android app forum, a better fit for your question.  I use an iPhone, but I searched through my app storage data.  My Fitbit app storage is in line with many other apps I use.  How much storage is your app taking?

Fitbit stores a little data, plus the app takes up some.

  • Pixel 8 pro,
  • Fitbit app 107mb
  • fitbit data takes up 29mb. I
  • Galaxy tablet i
  • The Fitbit app 107mb
  • Fitbit data 28.05mb

Yes fitbit also uses some cache, but this gets released if needed by another app. Cache is temporary, but is the phones way of speeding the phone up by guessing what data the app will need next.

Please remember that swiping apps out of memory will slow down the opening of the apps, uses more battery, more memory and requires a complete start-up of the app. This is because the app has been removed from memory, with Cache cleared.

Don't fight the Android memory management, Android has an externally efficient men management, so let it do its thing.

You could manually clear cache, but doing so will slow the phone down.

You could also clear data, but you will then have to approve a bunch of permissions, possibly also login, the next time the app is turned on

Hi @Rich. - most storage is probably used by videos and photos, or big email attachments. Use the on board file storage tools to localise where the space is being used to free up some space.

@Guy_ @Rich_Laue @LZeeW Thanks for yout input and details!

@Rich. Welcome to the forums. I suggest you use the "file explorer" app on your Samsung Tab to free up space. You can open the native file explorer app on your Galaxy Tab and tap on settings. It will let you analyze the storage in general and free up space. There are other apps to help you manage the storage and large files. There is no way to delete Fitbit files to free up space, since it will generate the same files once you open the app again. I suggest you get rid of apps that you do not use often. You can also back up your photos or videos, since those are the files that take up more storage.
