Distance not being calculated correctly

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Fitbit is not calculating the distance correctly as I am walking on the same routes that I was walking earlier and know the correct distance involved. Is there a way of improving the GPS accuracy as currently it is way off mark.

Hi @PrabhakarCS. Welcome on board!

Thanks for taking the time to let me know that the distance wasn't recorded correctly. Let me help you out with this. Just to confirm, were you tracking your activity using connected GPS or MobileRun? Since there are some factors that may affect the GPS connection, please make sure of the following:

  • GPS can continue tracking while your phone is locked.
  • The location services are enabled within your privacy settings.
  • The Fitbit app is allowed to run on the background. This can be checked in your phone's settings.
  • You have a strong internet signal during your activity.

In the meantime, you can try restarting your Fitbit device to refresh its performance. Also, please take a look to this help article for more details about GPS tracking.

Keep me posted!

Dear Lizzy

Thanks for your email. I have been trying different options for checking
the distance being clocked. Actions taken by me are as under
1. I restarted my watch twice.
2. It improved the distance but was showing more sometimes and sometimes
less. I attributed the difference to the buildings near by since I was
waking within the built up area. The distance wrongly clocked reduced to a
great extent during this time.
3. Today I went to a park ( open space) for a walk but the distance was not
correct. For a distance of about 5 km there was an error of approx 600 m
(minus). I had been a regular in the park earlier and my phone tracks the
distance correctly in that.

Please suggest what should be done. Frankly I am not happy with the product.
