It's great to see you around @Jrushty. Samsung Galaxy J5 is not a compatible phone. I recommend checking our list compatible mobile devices and the Add more compatible Android devices request, vote for it and leave your comment.

Lady's and gents,

I am proud to announce the answer that many users of very popular new model Samsung J5 are waiting for....

Despite some people discouraged me and tell me that Samsung J5 does not appear on devices' compatible list of fitbit I decided to acquire one Fitbit blaze and today is my 1st day with it and it did worked fine and I confirm it is compatible with the Fitbit Blaze!

Yes! I can confirm that works fine every function, including map with GPS...steps... Whatsapp msgs... etc etc... Don't be afraid, despite no appearing on Fitbit device's list it works fine!! I confirm!

So, people with Samsung J5,  you can buy and enjoy your Fitbit Blaze!!

(To Fitibit Inc.... this personal research and risky action by myself ,answers to many questions in this community and I think it deserves a very special prize for me!!! hahhaha... With a fitbit Alta for my wife I would be happy :))

Regards for everyone and enjoy!

@nunopisco I hope you're doing well! Those are great news, thanks for your enthusiasm and for letting us know that you were able to use the Fitbit Blaze with the Samsung J5! I was checking the list of supported devices and it is not listed yet. However, I will investigate further to check if it will work for other trackers as well. I would like to know if somebody else was able to link any Fitbit trackers with a Samsung J5?

I just got a Samsung J5 metal. It is working perfectly fine. I switched from another phone and Fitbir is running smoothly. Only thing is that I need to turn on location to sync. Other than that, no prob.

Hey, @Yogui! Welcome aboard. Heart Thank you so much for letting us know that your tracker is syncing perfectly with your phone. Location must be turned on as of the Android 6.0 update in order to sync, so it is not on our side, it's to do with a change Google made with the introduction of Android 6.

I hope to see you around a little more, make sure to take a quick look at our cool Discussion board. Robot LOL

Very happy it works for you. Unfortunately no compatibility with fitbit charge 2...

Best Answer

Well, that's strange because I have a Galaxy J5 and a fitbit Charge 2 and it works fine! Having huge problems as have just bought my husband a Charge 2 and his Galaxy GT3 mini is not compatible. Didn't even occur to me that this would be a problem. We are now so fed up, will probably send the fitbit back.

@FizzyK Welcome to the Fitbit family! What specifics is your husband experiencing? Seeing that those phone models are not on the list of supported devices; that would be why your husband is experiencing this. However, in some cases like yours, you may have a unsupported device and it will still work. Please tell me the specifics he is experiencing and we can try to troubleshoot!

As an alternative solution, he can use a computer in the meanwhile to sync his tracker. It is recommended to sync once or twice a day.

This is brillant news, I was bought a fitbit charge 2 for chrismas  and knew nothing about having to sync it etc. I have just bought the Samsung Galaxy J5 as i am very out of touch with new mobile phones as well, and as on the list there was the galaxy J i thought it was the same thing. so this comment has made me very happy

I have used fitbit surge for 12 months along with my J5 and now suddenly it no longer syncs and works with it!

Same thing happened with mine. I set the Surge up with the  Samsung J5 and it has worked perfectly well for the last 3 months, then this morning it suddenly refused to sync, despite all the testings of Bluetooth and Location and Wi-Fi and restarts etc. etc. I am considering deleting the tracker and re-installing, it's the only thing I haven't done yet. If it won't work it doesn't matter if it's installed or not, but I am **ahem** angry that the store where I bought it didn't warn me about the incompatibility issue.

Nothing has worked for me. I'm going with a Garmin as I've had no luck with
fitbit

Does anyone know if Fitbit did some unheralded update over the last
month that has changed things for either the Surge or the app itself?
Because up to now I have never had a problem with either a Surge or a
Flex with a phone of any kind.

Do the Moderator and/or Fitbit have anything to contribute here? I notice a loud silence when this topic of the J5 not syncing any longer has come up on a couple of threads.

I'm about to take this, my second Surge in 18  months, back to the shop where I got it and see what they can do in the way of refunds etc. since they didn't have any more in stock when I bought this one.  Then I( may start looking elsewhere too.

Jogger, is there a Garmin that stores sleep and food as well as workout data, do you know off hand? I can go look, but it will take much longer :-).

Thanx

Now have a new Surge tracker. Samsung J5 took it OK when configured at
the store, wdn't do it at home. I now think the culprit for the previous
crash was neither new updates nor the phone nor even a fault with the
Surge itself. It was the magnetic clasp on my new Paperwhite Kindle
cover. The only thing that's changed otherwise round here, and I only
received it in the middle of last week. Tracker fell down on the Friday.
When I Googled Fitbit tracker problems and magnets, 4 other examples of
trackers karking near magnetic jewellery turned up. The Moderator seemed
to have no idea about that and neither did the people at the shop where
I went, but I've taken that cover off the Kindle and I'm getting another
*without* magnets around it.
