Why does my fitbit show Elliptical exercise when I go swimming?

@Gnob, I would assume it is because it is misinterpreting your arm movements. Can you manually start the swimming exercise on your fitbit rather than letting it autorecognise the activity? Forgive my ignorance, but I have an old charge 2 so swimming is not available to me.

Thanks - yes I did manually start the swimming today but just wondered why the fitbit didn't recognise swimming strokes and mistook them for elliptical!

@Gnob, I have no answer for that. I would have thought the only stroke similar to elliptical would be doggy-paddle. I'm assuming you were doing freestyle,  does it misinterpret breaststroke?

Looks like you might have to stick with the manual start.

@Gnob, wow, that's nothing like elliptical.  Sorry but I have no other idea why this is happening to you.

@Gnob  @Lilbiddy   When you wear a wrist tracker, the tracker doesn't know whether the arms are moving alternately or in unison.  The accelerometer in the tracker picks up activity and assigns it using the algorithms.

So breaststroke could be perceived to be elliptical.

I once got a 25 minute outdoor bike ride while driving my car on a much longer trip.  Weird stuff happens.
