I just bought my fitbit and I am trying to join on my android app and it has said for the last two days the the app is down for maintenance.

@Kiacino, the Fitbit site is not down - I just synced my trackers, and it connected immediately - so there is something else going on. Have you created a Fitbit account through the Fitbit app? If so, were you able to log into the app with the email address & password you used to create the Fitbit account? Once that was done, did you open the app Account screen and select Set up a device option?
If not the above, at what point do you get the message that the site is down?

I have also shut down my phone for 10 minutes and also uninstalled the app and re-installed it and I am still getting the same 'maintenance' message.

Sorry my apologies, I didn't go to sync device, I tried to go to set up device.

My phone still says the site is down for maintenance. I used my Samsung tablet to sign on and set up my device.
