Fitbit App on Android kills phone battery

I'm opening a new thread as the previous one was marked as solved by the OP and could cause confusion for people watching this particular issue.

Galaxy S5 4G + ionic. Fitbit app has been functioning fine for about 3 weeks now but yesterday, the phone gave me half a day of battery life yesterday with usage stats at 29% for the Fitibit app. I normally get a day and the next morning at least. Next one down was the screen at 8%! When I pay $400 (NZ), why do I have to disable features in order to improve performance like Fitbit is suggesting we do? Doing this doesn't improve battery life anyway.

Uninstalled until fix released.
