Fitbit One rejects bluetooth pairing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

A few months ago my fitbit One stopped being paired to my phone, a Samsung Galaxy Edge. I have reset my phone, turned bluetooth on and off. I have re-started my fitbit device on my computer a few times as well. Each time I go to pair the device, it says "Pairing rejected by One".

Please help!

Hello!

I had to uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app to get mine recognized.  I did do the restarts initially to no avail, but uninstall/reinstall worked instantly.   It quit pairing a couple months ago, so I gave up on it, but hated to just let it go after 6+ million steps.

Good luck!

I've been trying to get through to customer service but their line is busy everytime I call. Anyone else have this experience? I'm calling 877-623-4977

That is the toll free USA number, you can also try live web chat from http://help.fitbit.com/?cu=1

Now since your Fitbit is connected to your account their is no need for you to pair it to your phone. The pairing is done by the app.

We are trying to help troubleshoot a sync issue.

I actually tried the web chat first @Rich_Laue. They were not able to help....still haven't been able to get through on the phone

Hi all, I wanted to share my experience here with Fitbit customer service.  Honestly, it's been a disaster...with the exception of you all here in this forum.  I never was able to get through to the US customer service number to actually speak to a person.  I did a live chat, emailed multiple times back and forth with them...all with NO resolution.  I was told to do the steps that I had already done, repeatedly.  Last night, the email told me that my One is out of warranty and that's that.  I was offered a discount on a new device, but that doesn't help me with the current issue.  My One works perfectly fine...it just isn't syncing automatically as it used to.  Thank you to all that tried to assist me.  It definitely makes me think twice about future trackers and what company I will buy from.

@middlje you say your One doesn't sync automatically, does it sync when the app is turned on.? If so then the problem is with the app and maybe all day sync is turned off.

Best Answer

Yes, I can get it to sync when I go into the app.  The red ! is there, it will then sync and say it's connected.  It will not sync again until I manually go into the app again.  I have a widget on my phone homescreen that would previously update with my step count through out the day.  Now this doesn't happen unless I manually go into the app.  All day sync is on and has been on through out.

Hi Magin -- I just got a new Galaxy 7, and have this same error message you answered last year when I try and pair it using bluetooth -- "pairing rejected by One"

The phone 'sees' the One and tries pairing, but the error message pops up. I have reset my One, reinstalled it as a 'new' device on the Android app, and closed the app and reopened it again, but get the same error.

I also get a message that 'location services' needs to be turned on in order to sync my fitbit -- but bluetooth should be all that is needed in order to sync. I do not keep location services turned on and do not want it turned on -- has fitbit done something to prevent bluetooth syncing?

I have a Droid Maxx 2 and I am having the same issue.  It will not conect to my bluetooth and says that the ONE rejected the pairing.  It will only sync when I open the app and I also get the red circle witht the ! in the middle.  Called customer service and chatted online to no avail.  They  just said that my phone is not compatible so it may not pair and I have to try to install and do the update on another device.

@QXU is your Fitbit One currently setup to your account, and your just switching phones?

If this is the case, then download the App, log into your Fitbit Account, your all setup and the Fitbit One will sync.

Yes because of a security hole in the Bluetooth Stack Marshmellow requires Location Services to be on. Fitbit is just letting you know that. No Fitbit does not look at your location, but Google decided for the users security to close an open door.

@shaynawess of course it says rejected, the user can not pair the tracker to the phone, it needs to be setup and attached to your Fitbit account through the Fitbit software. Once it is connected to your Fitbit Account the app will pair it to the phone.

@middlje outside of restarting the phone or deleting and reinstall the app I have no thoughts.

@DaveMorris when you say your Galaxy sees, are you in the Fitbit app?

Not sure what you mean?  I have the tracker all set up on the app on my phone.  All of that happened with no problems.  I also just realized that it is also tracking and set up on my computer even though I do not have the device that allows that.  The little plug in mushroom thing was missing when this was given to me from a friend who no used the Fitbit.  All my current info from the fitbit is showing up on the dashboard though??  Phone is still saying that the ONE rejected the pairing though??

Ok @shaynawess the app is setup on the phone, the tracker is syncing to your Fitbit account. The fitbit data shows up in your web based dashboard as it should because it looks at the data in your fitbit account and not the tracker.

It looks as if your all setup!

So what screen are you at when it says one rejected pairing, and what are you trying to do?

Thanks Rich. Yes, it turns out this phone, with the interface controlled by Google, demands access to my phone's camera and contacts and microphone, and location, etc, regardless of what the app I'm trying to use requires. I've discovered that I must 'grant permission', then later, after the app is up and running, I'm able to revoke all but what an app truly needs.
As to the other responses, thanks for your replies. Yes, I know to install the app first and no, it wasn't a straightforward process to get it to recognize and sync with my fitbit. I've used several types of fitbits with blackberries and iphones, continuously since early 2011. This new Galaxy s7 is the first to make it an unintuitive process.

When I go tot he Bluetooth setting on my phone and try to pair I get the comment that pairing rejected by One.  Then in the app itself it tells me that it can't do the update to the app and to enable bluetooth etc. which I can't seem to do.  The only thing they could tell me on the phone was that my that my Droid Maxx 2 was not compatible with the app and so I would not be able to connect to the bluetooth.  That seems odd to me since everthing is working?

I am trying yo update the app.  It says that I need to update tracker software but it wont sync to do it.  Also the app is not showing the same stats as the computer dashboard.  The dashboard matches the fitbit itself but the app does not??  This is all very confusing.

Hi,

I am having the same issues. Actually, today I was active for almost an hour and the Fitbit did not register it. I see that my steps on my actual Fitbit and app match up and syncing does occur but I do notice sometimes there is a red dot or something in my app next to the picture of my Fitbit. I tried to pair my Fitbit and it keeps saying it is rejected. I restarted my phone and the Fitbit several times and uninstalled the Fitbit app and reinstalled it but still my Bluetooth is rejecting it, it sees the Fitbit but rejects it. So frustrating when something doesn't work. I honestly don't want to call customer service because I see on this thread that they are of no help and they are hard to reach. I don't want to waste an hour or two and not get my problem resolved. I know my Fitbit is out of the warranty period. Any other suggestions out there? Is it not the Fitbit but my phone? Odd thing is it will pair with speakers I have, actually I have 3 mini speakers and the Bluetooth pair such fine all of them. So it must be the Fitbit, right???

Yes trying to pair a tracker yo your phone through the Bluetooth menu will fail and results in having the message "rejected by the tracker".

Did you remove the tracker from the app/fitbit account? If you have not, thats good and do not do it.

Remove the tracker from your phones Bluetooth menu, restart the fitbit One and the phone. Maybe shutdown the phone. Now try a sync.
