Fitbit app drains battery, possibly related to Ionic?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Screenshot_20180111-150428.pngI've had my Ionic since the release but recently, in the past couple weeks or month, I've noticed my phone battery is draining very quickly. When that happens I open the battery menu and the Fitbit app is always on top. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing the cache and data, restarting my phone, but inevitably the next day when I notice my battery is low I check and the fitbit app is again on top.

Is anyone else having this issue?

@jakechs, I have not experienced that on my Android phone, but I am using Fitbit app v2.63.  I just checked my phone and it shows the Fitbit app has used 4% of the battery, which is about what I normally see.  When I install a new version of the Fitbit app, I shut down the phone, the power it back on, rather than restarting it, to ensure everything loads clean.

@jakechsThe odd day I have syncing issues my battery drains at 1%/minute trying to sync..

I have "Always Connected" ticked and "All Day Sync" off, so it only syncs when I open the App.. and I'm syncing to multiple trackers on the one account.. Normally I get through a day on my phone battery with Fitbit and everyday use..

Here are today's stats on battery usage and I have the screen on saver and the light intensity minimized.

I'm on V2.63 and awaiting for 2,64 in the App Store, but I always do what @USAF-Larry when a new app is updated.

I'm having h the same issue but it only started in the last month or so.  Fitbit is always on top using about 15% of battery.  I have it set to sync all day but it doesn't always sync nor does it always deliver notifications to my ionic.  My vz rep noticed this when I initially called about battery running down so quickly.  I have a Moto z force 2, which I'm told isn't supported by Fitbit but had worked just fine (after some initial quirks when I first got the ionic) up until about a month ago.  Very frusi.

I am having the exact same issue since the latest fitbit app update. I attempted clearing cache/data, uninstalling and reinstalling.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7. The Samsung device maintenance service kept sending me warnings that fitbit was using 30% or more of the cpu and had been shutdown. This happened several times including in airplane mode. I finally had to uninstall and will wait for the next update.Android version and Samsung software infoAndroid version and Samsung software info

My ionic firmware version is 27.32.10.20

@DesaberWhen you download App 2.74.1 see how that goes.. When I upgraded from V2.73 to V2.74 my battery drainage and heat stopped..

Now hopefully that I have installed V2.74.1 it will eliminate the excess mobile data use.. My data use for Fitbit is 43% of my monthly use for all Apps...

I'm using the Ionic and One in Multi mode successfully..

@Colinm39 Per your suggestion I re-installed and within 20 minutes fitbit had drained 3% of my battery and in a little over n hour nearly 10%. I have uninstalled again.

OMG Fitbit is killing my S7 battery. I don't know if it is the Fitbit version or my Android version. But I just wiped and factory reset my phone last night - so far today it is still trashing my battery.

@DesaberI wish I could help... From all of the posts I can't see a link anywhere that points to a common issue.. You can see from my signature what my specification profile is and I'm having no issues now.. Even my mobile data use is dropping as a % of my total use, so App 2.74.1 is working for me.. Also battery usage on the phone is only 1% of the days activity... nearly 10pm here.

I feel for the engineers, but I have kept my Ionic very simple eg a Fitbit clock Face.., I manual wake the screen, no All day sync, I have all notifications on and I'm finding the Ionic syncing more responsive on this current App.

But all of this doesn't help many, but there are many suggestions to download App V2.72.1 from APKMirror and that has given those users relief..

@Colinm39 I appreciate you sharing your info and experience. I have all day sync enabled, and notifications turned on. While I'm not diametrically opposed to disabling these for a short time, it's not a fix. The software and product should function as advertised. Which they did until 2 updates ago. At the moment I will be installing fitbit on my ipad and syncing that way until the next update.

I've just about given up on this pile of ....

This week the app has started draining my Galaxy S7 at 5% per hour.

Last week random wrong time.

Week before unresponsive. Keys and screen randomly stopped working.

I feel like throwing it out of the window.

Support acknowledge there are problems.... just wish I could get my money back to be honest..

If anyone has some magic solution, or perhaps we could hold a mass smash your ionic event

globally....

Support advise me to factory reset watch and reinstall the app on my phone, nothing makes much difference. As a software engineer of 35 years it is obvious the testing of recent firmware and app updates has not been thorough, and I would guess they are in panic mode trying to fix issues.

It would be useful to enable users to roll back to a stable version of the firmware and application.

Fitbit need to sort this.. or offer an alternative watch or something..
