Fitbit Update: 8/15

Hey all!

This week we released the option to opt-in to use the new dashboard to everyone. At this time, everyone should have received the option to opt-in already. If you didn't opt-in, we will transition everyone into the new dashboard in the coming weeks.

A reminder, after you've opted into the new design you cannot revert and go back to the old one. Read more about the new interface we've designed here: What’s the new Fitbit app experience?

Make sure you're also on the latest version of the Fitbit app.

Thanks for your patience while we completely released the new interface to everyone. We hope you're enjoying the improvements that have been made and appreciate all the feedback.

Fitbit Update: 8/6

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all your feedback on the new dashboard design. We're still in the process of releasing it to all of our users. If you don't see it yet, you will have it pushed to you in the coming weeks! This has been a slow process for the past few months to ensure a smooth rollout.

We're currently on app version 3.3, so please make sure as always that you have the latest version of the Fitbit app

Once we've released this new dashboard to everyone, we will announce it in this thread.

Fitbit Update: 6/17

Hi Fitbit Family,

We are still rolling out our updated Fitbit app design to more users currently with v.2.95. Please make sure to update the Fitbit app by visiting the Google App play store if you haven't already. If you don't see the new dashboard just yet, you will be receiving it at some point in the coming weeks.

Thanks so much for your patience throughout this rollout. To read more about this new dashboard experience, please check this article out: What’s the new Fitbit app experience?

Once this rollout is complete, we will let you all know in this thread.

Fitbit Update: 5/23

Hi everyone!

We’ve rolled out another phase of testing for the new app dashboard experience. If you’re one of the lucky people to see it before the full release, you can read more about it here: What’s the new Fitbit app experience?

We’ll continue to slowly release this to all Fitbit customers on iOS and Android. Once we receive more information on this, we’ll let you know.

Hope you’re all enjoying this new layout!

Fitbit Update: 4/24

Hi everyone!

Beginning today with app v2.92, we're excited to announce a new dashboard experience for the Fitbit app, currently by invitation only. If you are invited to opt-in, you can see the new design and try our new app experience to access all your stats and information in a way that’s more dynamic, integrated, and highly personalized.

You can read more about it in this help article: What's the new Fitbit app experience?

As with all our new dashboard updates, this is a progressive rollout. If you don't have an invitation or see the dashboard immediately, you will receive it later on.

We will update this thread with more information later, so stay tuned!

Fitbit Update 4/29/2019:

    1. The issue with being able to edit your core stats is now resolved! They should now appear on your Today tab
    2. The team confirmed that some people were given the new dashboard upon updating to v.2.92. We apologize if this affected your stats and look forward to any feedback you have.

Thanks, everyone for your patience and reports.

...and thank you too for escalating the issue to team and thus them fixing it.😊

No dark mode bro. All they did was shrink everything down, squished the stats together, and swapped the old icons for mismatched ugly ones. It's a definitive step back, but you'll see what I mean soon enough.

To Vote for a choice between the new and old dashboard, go to "Feature Suggestions" - then "Allow customers to choose between dashboards" should be near the top of the list.

@JoeKII Yup, why they would take a beautifully laid out large display and change it to a small bunched up ugly display is beyond me.  At least they fixed it so you can see steps now, but clearly someone at Fitbit is bringing the company backwards instead of forward.  Why there is a need for people to try and fix something that isn't broke is just another example of this Millenial generation.

There is probably a reason why they hire  UX Design Prototyper and UI Visual Designer

Article is very helpful. I really like trying new things and am not usually one to complain first and ask questions later. I haven't been invited this time around, so must be patient (not my strong suit). However, can anyone tell me if the food data shows fiber or net carbs. Some of us pre-diabetics watch that stuff and it's a royal pain to switch to the online dashboard to get that one piece of information.

My Fitbit Inspire is still not syncing correctly with the app.  It takes almost 3 minutes for the app to sync and update.

The new app still only shows % of macronutrients.

Any way to Opt In to the new Dashboard?

Best Answer
To the best of my knowledge, there's no way. I was told to wait since it's being rolled out in small percentages to RANDOM users. Sucks cuz I really wanted in badly from day one. Guess we have to keep our fingers crossed and hope we part of the next wave. 🤞🏾

it's a downgrade imo

I'm noticing many failed syncing attempts with my Pixel XL since the update.

My iphone Fitbit Dashboard has changed. I haven't received any request or notice to change. Functionality doesn't seem to have changed, but dashboard design looks like it was done in a kindergarten. The old version was much better - bring it back! Please,

Hi everyone!

Thanks for posting some feedback on the new Fitbit app dashboard design. We're excited to be testing this out and appreciate any constructive feedback on the new look.

At this time, if you weren't invited to test the new dashboard you won't be able to manually opt-in. If you've already accepted the invite for the new dashboard, you can't revert to the previous design.

We'll let you know of any new information when more updates become available.

So Please just invite me asap. Old UI is too basic and never liked it anyway. Just add me to the first group by inviting me now.... can't wait.

Why don't you just invite people who are interested in testing stuff?? I know you can do it, just click that red button next to my name/email and invite me. Ready to give all the constructive feedbacks.

@Kenzibit be careful what you wish for. Clearly you haven't read through this thread, and once you got it, you can't go back. You're going to wish you just stuck with what you had. You'll see.

I've now got the new dashboard and I'm so disappointed. It's like someone else said - why fix something that isn't broken? It reminds me of when Instagram updated their app and got rid of their iconic logo (still haven't gotten over that).

They've tried to "clean up" the page but it's just boring and the icons are bland and look squished to one side.

I wasnt invited to anything - my dashboard updated and I'd now like the option to go back.

I hate that the steps counter is the same size as everything else. I miss the colour and the personality of the last one. And, I don't feel it's  user friendly - nothing is as obvious at first glance.

Please change it back - it was more motivating to check in on my progress before.

Well, actually I found that I was able to switch back, by going into my account settings (the little filing card/ID icon at the top) and choosing "revert to old format" or something like that down at the bottom. I have reverted to the old layout.

Apparently not everyone has (or found) that option, but I was going to say thank you for including it.  I guess it wasn't intended, but whoever did put it in, please thank them and give them a raise.  Because that is how you should run a beta of a new experience--give real customers a non-binding chance to try it out and give feedback, not come up with something within your closed little group and then roll it out with "here it is and you're stuck with it". I guess y'all did something right, even if it was by accident.

And for the love of all that's holy, listen to your customers and the feedback, particularly when it affects functionality and usability.  Don't be those software people that break important functionality and dismiss it with "but it's all shiny and pretty!". The goat-rope that was the redesigned online dashboard is an example; change for better visuals is fine but make sure you didn't break anything or take functionality away in the process.

That process has to involve your real end users.  If I learned nothing else from 8 years in R&D engineering, it's that no matter how great and perfect you think your design is, and no matter how thoroughly you think you've tested something internally, the moment your first real-world customers get hold of something they'll find all kinds of new and interesting ways to break your product and come up with all kinds of issues you never even thought about.  Sometimes it's because your customers do things differently than you think they do (and since your general customer base vastly outnumbers your developer group and even your focus groups, it's almost certain you haven't thought of all the ways).  Sometimes it's because you just plain missed something and were blind to it, for the same reason it's hard to proofread and edit your own stuff (you see what you intend to be there, rather than what is there).

For example, I just had a conversation the other day about the new documentation system we use for our products.  That system was recently updated and it entirely broke the search functionality (which never really worked well to begin with).  Apparently someone finally complained to the right person... but the response was "why would you ever need to do a search?"  And that is the number one feature all of us who actually use those manuals want and need!

Point is, Fitbit, when you go to push something like this out, don't consider it a "nearly-complete, here's what you're going to get, we'll just fix any remaining bugs" release candidate.  Consider it a rough draft beta that hasn't been through the editor yet.  Be prepared for a lot of critical feedback.

Anyway, feedback on the new beta...

  • Biggest point is that the icons for each goal (hours with 250+ steps, sleep, food, and so on) are largely useless now--or at least, really dumbed-down.  The sleep icon, for example, used to show an arc with the various sleep stage colors throughout it.  Now all that shows up is a plain, uninformative icon that seems to only show whether you hit the goal or not.  The hourly activity icon doesn't appear to correlate easily with time throughout the day any more.  The calories remaining icon is less intuitive, though I guess not really uninformative per se.
  • Next, due to things like challenge status and other stuff getting put at the top, the important stuff I want to see--calories remaining, for example--gets shoved down the list and now I have to scroll down to see the stuff I used to see right off the bat.
  • All of the icons now look similar enough that I have to study them and really look to see what's on that line, instead of being able to easily determine it even at a glance.
  • With the core stats--steps, calories burned, etc.--they now all bias left.  The primary one sits to the left instead of centered, and removing others from view (like floors, because it's inaccurate) doesn't cause the rest to distribute evenly across the screen.
  • I do like that the core stats take up less overall room on the screen, however.
  • I like that challenge status can now be included on the dashboard instead of having to dig for it.

Again, appreciate the chance to provide feeback on (what was for me, at least) a non-binding beta test.  I just really want to implore to the Fitbit developers...

Don't break functionality for the sake of visual appearance!  Look at functional improvements before cosmetic ones!

In other words, if you're going to make improvements, concentrate on things that make a usable difference first--e.g., fix some bugs, add things like macros in grams to the food tracker, etc.  Fix your food database.  No, these things aren't glorious and pretty and new shiny.  But they're things your customers have been asking for because those are features and functions that really matter to them and help make their lives better.

Thank you.

Seems the new dashboard isn't included for me. I am running on a Samsung S7, Android 8.0.0 (newest update my phone has received). So, either they backtracked because so many are having issues to fix or I'm just lucky to not get it yet. From the photos (the first posted) it looks like a mix between the original layout and the newerish layout.  (I've also been told i have the newest because I am able to have more than one device at a time.. whenever I want to add the versa or the inspire, whichever is attached gets removed/replaced automatically)
