Fitbit tracked 30k steps all of a sudden?

I woke up this morning and walked back and forth on the coffee maker a couple times and my Fitbit app says I walked over 30,000 steps. Now I have a new versa and was synced to my older Fitbit but why would this all of a sudden pop up like this and how can I change it back to my realistic 800 steps that I've taken so far today?

You can do that by logging a 'Driving" activity for that time.

Did you wear your tracker overnight?  If you were not wearing it and it was resting somewhere subject to vibrations, such as on a table with a fan, they can be interpreted as steps.

I did .Last night I added a new versa that I got and rested my Alta on a chair that a fan was on. I guess that's what happened .How do I remove the 30k steps that it registered?

this same problem is regularly happening to me, nearly every day. The most recent one jumped 70k steps. There had to be a program fix for this other than logging driving time every time this happens. If it keeps up, I'm switching to Garmin.

Mine did this for the first time today.  How do you find WHEN exactly the jump happened?  I wound up just setting the driving time for the whole morning, which brought me back to 19 steps.  Hopefully this does not become a consistent problem.  I've been very happy with my charge 4...

This happened to my Alta for the first time today, after using for about five years! Adding a drive for the time of the steps spike has corrected things after syncing.

In the app, tap the steps count, then today's steps, tap the graph and then the really high bar - it'll show the fifteen minute period when the steps were added.

However I've been awarded several badges for most steps in a day, that haven't been taken away, which is a pity - I'd rather achieve them on a day when I've walked my socks off!

I had this happen a week ago today on a Saturday and then again today, on  Saturday. Something is going on. I find it hard to believe it's me or my Fitbit. Both times happened while I was sleeping. I woke up to 46,000 steps today. There needs to be a way to fix this besides logging a drive time. Oh and look, 46,000 steps was only .01 miles. See! Something wrong.
