GPS not tracking run correctly

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hello!

I've had my fitbit charge 2 for just over a year and up til this week has worked fine.

The last two runs I have done I have noticed that the GPS doesn't seem to be running well. For example, my usual 5k route came up as only 2.13k.

You can tell because the map looks like a loop rather than the actual road I followed. The same happened today despite the signal being 'Good' and in the green before I set off!

I don't think it's due to trees or mountains ect.as I've been doing the same route for months with no probs.

Any suggestions how to fix?

Welcome to the forums @KellyManVoice.

That sounds very frustrating. I'd like to take a closer look at what is going on.

Could you take some screenshots of what you are seeing and then share them in here? That way I can see it for myself. I'd also like to ask like to ask:

  • What phone are you using?
  • Did anything change on the phone? Or did the phone itself change?

In the meantime I'd like to recommend that you restart your phone before going to the run and seeing if that helps with the tracking.

Let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with.

Thank you for your reply!

I've attached two photos of my regular 5k route. You can see the difference in shape and the difference in distance despite it being the same route.

I am using a Samsung galaxy s8.

Will try restarting my phone before my run tomorrow.20180910_203916.jpg

what version of the app are you running?  2.75 for Android broke GPS at the app level..   2.77 seemed to make connection between versa and the app worse.. 2.78 was just released and who knows what that broke.. (I am sticking w/ an old version of the app until I see glowing reviews about a new release fixing things rather than breaking it)

It's 2.78 😕

Dollars to donuts if you roll back to 2.74.2 that will fix the issue

@KellyManVoice  Unfortunately instructions on how to do that aren't permitted within this forum.  Try to google the question about how and I think you'll find instructions on the internet.

Result! After my runs were still not logging correctly with the fitbit app I went to try Runkeeper. Before I started it prompted me to check my battery settings as this can affect the GPS.

My battery was in medium power saving mode so I switched it to normal and hey presto the GPS is now tracking correctly!

Might be worth installing a prompt on the fitbit app to check battery mode before tracking like Runkeeper does!

Hope this helps other users!
