I have a friend's fitbit ID, but there's no way to add someone? She's not a contact in my phone. Can't I add someone using their ID or name?

@sparkyturtleIt is a pain but you can do a workaround. Enter her ID into this link and you may have to wade through some similar ID's until you find her, click on the ID, then click on Go to Fitbit profile, then click +add Friend. They will have to accept your request for you to view her.

Ack. Why isn't there a "search by name" function that every other app on the Internet has? Very user-unfriendly.
@Zotster1958 Because most people do not use their actual name as their screen name, preferring to remain private.
Well, that's not really good enough (on FItbit's part, not yours; thanks for the reply). I should be able to enter the name of the person I know who's using their fitbit and is registered in the community and have an interface pop up via which I can send a message to that person. I wouldn't need to see their screen name, all that needs to happen is that Fitbit knows their real name (which they should require to register on the site) and, without revealing that info to me, enable me to send a message to them. Perhaps I'd also need to provide a city of residence for that person, to avoid duplicate names.
Otherwise, there's no good way to find out someone is a member of the fitbit community. I've known people for two years now that I've just recently discovered were also using their fitbit every day. It's not something most people generally advertise, so it would be nice to be able to search for friends on this site. But that functionality isn't present, unlike every other social site in the known universe.
So, there is no way to search for someone by name? Or username? Or to synch with Twitter/Facebook/Google + to find people?? Why not? I would love to have more individuals to message to keep me motivated ....
(agreeing with Zotster1958's frustration)
I tried that link and it took me to a search page. Entering the user ID showed no results whatsoever. It is ridiculous how difficult they make it for you to add a friend! ![]()
They definately should make it a lot easier to add a friend. You can only add by username if that person has taken a part in the community. I just now made my username and I've been a fitbit user since december.

A warm welcome to the Community @bb430. I would like to know if you keep having problems adding friends? If you do, could you please be more specific about the inconvenience you have and tell me which device you are using to add your friends?
Hope to hear from you soon. ![]()
Hi my friend has just recently got a fitbit. But I can't add her or anyone else I know. I have A Samsung S6.
Best AnswerUsing samsung s9 plus and have tried adding friends using contacts and facebook. So far it took me 2 days to add 1 friend.
Best AnswerI figured it out!! Log onto the computer instead of the mobile app and hover over your profile picture. Your actual profile name will pop up and you can search by that name rather than the User ID!! Too bad it says to search by User ID rather than your profile name (a profile name that you can't see unless you accidentally hover over your own picture).

Hi all,
The easiest, most unambiguous way to friend someone is by your profile page. To do this:
On that page, there's a button to "Add Friend" (they'll need to log in to Fitbit.com). This is what it looks like:
Have them add you that way. This way, you don't need to mess with:
If you're crafty, there are tools that will make this URL into a QR code and you can even keep that on your phone. Show them that image and have them scan it.
I hope this helps.
