I can't update app to add Alta Hr

My hubs bought me an Alta HR, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. When I try to add the device to my fitbit account a window pops up saying 'update application' before I can add the device. I just installed it, so there are no updates. Help???? I've uninstalled & reinstalled. Deleted my old device. Tried on my pc also.....I'm so confused.

@Hjsanders, I suspect your Samsung Galaxy S3 is running Android OS 4.0, which is not a supported OS for the Fitbit app - the minimum supported OS is 4.3.   If this is the case, the Google Play Store will not be able to download/install the updated Fitbit app to your phone.
