I have been trying to update my Ionic for at least 4 months with the update on the app. Every time it either fails due to connection issues or syncing issues or timeout issues. I know I am missing out on new features and frankly, I am ticked. Please help. I have a Galaxy S9

Thanks for taking the time to bring this up. Let me help you figure out what is going on.
In this case I'd like to recommend that you try following all of the steps listed in this help article. They will help you get the Ionic to update correctly and start working with the latest firmware.
