Yes a small amount of data.  During the sync process, the tracker and the phone communicate via Bluetooth to synchronize the data between the two, and then the phone's data connection is used to upload the data to the Fitbit server. Anytime you refresh the app Dashboard, it downloads the data from the Fitbit server to the Dashboard, so a small amount of your data is used then, too.  However, the data usage is very small.

In your phone's Settings, Apps open the Fitbit app and select Data usage. It will tell you the amount of data used.  Mine, for example is showing that my Fitbit app has used 250Mb of data since Dec 12, 2016, with 40Mb of that being since March 1st.  So, in the overall scheme of data usage, it is pretty small.  I use more than that checking e-mail and text messages.

Hi @Cherylbhorseycb

The tracker uses Bluetooth to communicate with the phone, not 3G/4G data. It will sync whenever you open the phone app or during the day if you have All Day enabled in the app.

If you're interested, there's an article about how sync works with Fitbit.

I noticed during my last trip abroad a high use of data (roaming). I looked at the data consumption of my app and found up a consumption of 1.45 MB since the end of May 2017 (for a little bit more than one month). How can I minimize data consumption without loosing information? What shall I do to minimize it during roaming periods?
