If so, then it should be via the normal google play app store.

Oh yes! I found that. Seems it's not as simple as I imagined.

The play store entry linked in that post says the version number varies by device.

I just checked my phone and there was an update pending but this only updated to 2.17

I'm afraid who gets the 3.17 version is a mystery to me.

Best you can do is check for any updates to make sure you're on the latest and be prepared for it to be 2.17 or 3.17 (or maybe even something else!)
