I suddenly started losing connectivity [sync stopped working] between my Charge 2 and my Motorola Moto G4 about 3 weeks ago. Tried all sorts to resolve it, normally ending up with a complete reboot of the phone, forgetting and re-pairing the Charge 2 and managing a single sync before losing connectivity again. Got to the point where I was ready to throw both devices out the window - but then had a thought - Fitbit supports Windows phones, so try it with my works Nokia 925 - that should prove whether it's the phone or the Charge 2. Long story short, no issues with the Windows phone Bluetooth, therefore main suspect was the Moto G4.
Did some more investigating, and finally stumbled across this tip - there is a setting in the "locations" part of the phone settings to enable Bluetooth scanning to assist with location identification. Now by default, this appears to be off, but - and here's the bizarre bit - a recent GOOGLE MAPS UPDATE toggles this particular setting ON. This seems to be the cause of my issues. I found the setting, toggled it back to "off", and ever since have had no more sync issues.
Hope this tip is useful if you are having syncing issues with (newer) Android phones.

Bluetooth scanning is set to off under locations for my Moto Z.
Syncing generally works for me but it's still pretty unreliable with this handset. I can't expect much as it's not a supported device.
Either is your Moto G4.

Regardless of "supported device" or not, my point is it was working fine then suddenly wasn't - for no obvious reason.
The Bluetooth Locations settings is something worth checking if:-
a) You use automatic updates, and have recently had a Google Maps update
b) sync that was working and now doesn't.
Not a guaranteed fix, but not something obvious that most people would know to look at.
Just saying, that's all.....
