Macronutrients not correct

Everything I eat is 5% or less fat..I am currently logging every item of food in my food diary nearly all of which are custom foods I have created  and saved. For some of my custom foods I have the individual elements (carbohydrate and sugars, fat and saturated fat etc) and I have entered these onto their records. So when I look at my daily macro pie chart I would expect fat to be less than 5% of the recognised calories. It is usually well over this. What am I doing wrong? And in the UK we have mono unsaturates and poly unsaturates. Which of these is cholesterol and which is the other type of fat?

Thanks for any answers. I am perplexed.

I have just taken a screenshot of today to show how confusing this information is.Breakfast today. Everything less than 5% fatBreakfast today. Everything less than 5% fat

Hello @SunsetRunner.

Thanks for reaching back to me.

In that case your assessment is correct, that would leave 200 calories categorized. In this case I'd like to recommend that you try to check on this via the website and not the app and see if there is a difference in that case.

You can click here to see the food log on the web version of the Dashboard.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Welcome to the Forums @SunsetRunner.

Thanks for bringing this up and sharing that screenshot with us.

It is possible that the calculations for that day were off for yesterday. My question in this case would be if everything has continues to behave like that or has it been like that since before?

Look forward to your reply.

Hi,
I have only been logging my food for 8 days and they are all similarly
incorrect.
Perhaps if you explained how these percentages are calculated I might
understand better.
As I see it if I eat 1200 kcals in a day and if 1000 of the are custom
foods detailed by macro nutrients from the manufacturers, I would expect
the uncategorised calories to be 200. But this does not seem to happen.

I'm still confused by the percentages. I don't know how to properly upload pictures, but below are my grams vs percentages both in the app and online.

  • Carbs 271g - 37%
  • Fat 105g - 33%
  • Protein - 215g - 30%

With a total of 591 grams, shouldn't it be

  • Carbs 271g - 46%
  • Fat 105g - 18%
  • Protein 215g - 36%

? I don't understand how the percentage is calculated.

Since the beginning of January my macronutrients percentage gone wild. For Example: On 24 Jan 2020 My Stats were: Carbs 299, Fat 84, and Protein 208 The percentage should be: Carbs 299/591 = 50% ; Fat 84/591 = 15% ; Protein 208/591 = 35% , but the applications shows me Carbs = 43%; Fat = 27% and Protein 30%. This is only one example, some of the days the difference is even worse.

Is this some kind of bug and how to fix it?

The disconnect is that Fitbit is measuring macros by grams instead of calories.  A gram of fat has nine calories but a gram of protein or carbs only has 4 calories, that's why the percentages seem off.

Hmm. I don’t think so because when I multiply by grams of carbs x 4, fats x 9, and proteins x 4, my total calories are wildly different from what Fitbit says they should be.
