Hi there @CrockfordMatt, I'glad you have joined to our Fitbit Community. Note that the Kindle fire is a device not supported by the Fitbit app and it may present these type of issues.
It wont hurt to try a restart on your kindle to review if that correct the problem. Although I strongly recommend to use instead the web-based dashboard at https://www.fitbit.com to log your exercise on your Log page.
