Manually Entering Exercise to the App

Every once in a while the app doesn't accurately track my exercise - giving me 20 minutes of exercise for over 2 hours, etc... If I delete that and add the exercise manually, it will increase my steps dramatically, almost as if it's adding the exercise on top of the steps counted by my tracker. For example, the other day I had about 11,000 steps on my tracker but the app only gave me 29 minutes of exercise when I had been hiking for an hour and 45 minutes so I manually added the 2.8 mile hike and deleted the erroneously tracked exercise in the app. It took what it estimated 2.8 miles worth of steps to be and added that to the steps counted by my wrist tracker giving me over 23,000 steps for the day. Considering I use the FitBit app to track calories in and burned, etc. having this elevated day throws all my data off. Not sure if I'm better off just using the apps and getting rid of the wrist tracker? But if I do that, I lose the steps and calories tracked during the day. I could take the wrist tracker off during exercise but then what's the point of a FitBit? I'm just curious what I should do for better accuracy.

Then I would suggest using the exercise tracker within the Versa, which should be much more accurate to your actual activity, especially with respect to calorie burn. You can set up the workout shortcuts from within the app to include one for hiking.

Hi, @JennaBee! What kind of tracker are you using? Most of them have the capability of tracking exercise manually from the tracker. When you create an exercise from within the app, it estimates your steps (for some things like walking/hiking) and calorie burn estimate based on what it thinks you would have done and overwrites what you otherwise had within that period. So, your best bet is generally to wear your tracker and use that calculation, especially if you've got a heart rate model.
