Message notifications always get duplicated on Blaze

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Whenever I receive messages on my phone, my Blaze seends me anywhere between 1 and 4 notifications, as if I got duplicated messages on my phone. (I have a Samsung Galaxy S5.) A couple months ago when I first enabled notifications on my Blaze, I would only receive one notification per message. Lately it has been getting progressively worse, where each message notifies the Blaze anywhere from 3 to 4 times on a consistent basis. It doesn't matter whether I disable and then reenable notifications, or reset the Blaze, it sends me mass notifications for each text I get. I really like receiving the notifications on my Blaze, but it would be nice to only receive one notification per text. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there an easy way to fix it or is is just an issue caused by my phone? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

@fudge22, do you have texts coming in from multiple people? I've found that happens from me when the number of notifications changes (eg, I read one of the text messages).

No, it happens regardless the number of texts. If I only get one text, my blaze will send me 3 or 4 duplicate notifications, for example.

My text messages are coming through my phone one time but showing up on my watch 3-4 each message. My phone calls are very delayed as well when my phone rings several times before my watch starts to vibrate. Other times when I answer a call and I am talking to someone my watch will then start to vibrate. I called customer support and they helped restart it but that did nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks @bpop09

I moved this to the Android section to another thread with the same problem.

It seems there is a similar problem with the iOS app, too.

Prehaps one of the moderators can stop by and tell us more.

This wouldn't be an Android App issue though, as the app has nothing to do with the error, only that it seems to be related to the Android operating system. Yet, if it is happening on IOS devices, it probably is an error in the Blaze firmware. Hopefully the developers are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. It has been a really long time since a firmware update, so it might be in the works.

Hi @fudge22 @bpop09 it is a pleasure to have you in the Fitbit community with us. In this case I recommend you guys to check to see if your app is up to date. Also, to setup your Fitbit as a new device. Meaning that you need to remove the device from your account and then set it up again.

@Odyssey13 Thanks for your help!

I'll be waiting for your reply!

This did absolutely nothing. App is up to date. Adding the device as a new device changed nothing. I keep getting duplicate notifications to my blaze.

Just to clarify, my phone only shows 1 notification. 1 unread text. And the blaze gets 3 to 4 copies of that text. Length of the text doesn't matter, it behaves the same whether it is 1 word or 20. I have noticed that when the texting app is open and i am texting the blaze only gets 1 notification, but if the phone is idle, the blaze gets many duplicate notifications.

@fudge22 Try using a different default text messaging app such as Google Hangouts. Make sure that you change the application to your default in your phone's settings and also in your Fitbit app's notifications section. Let me know if that changes anything.

Ok, I figured it out I think. I switched the default messaging app to hangouts, and I was only receiving one notification per message. But since I don't want those messages to go to my blaze since I want texts, I switched back to message+ and it works fine now. Not sure what happened before that caused it to glitch out. It could have been a random update to the fitbit app, but re-adjusting the settings fixed the duplicate message notifications.

I just assumed that the blaze communicated directly with the phone's notifications via bluetooth, but it seems to go through the fitbit app first, so adjusting the settings on the fitbit app helped get things back to normal.

Thanks @ErickFitbit

Nevermind, it looks like I still get mass duplicates of texts again. There must be an incompatibility with message+ and the fitbit app. Hopefully they can fix this.

@fudge22 Yeah, seems like notifications don't always play nice with Message+ but have heard that Google Hangouts works very well with it. I've made our Android team aware of that already and will update you if I hear of any changes to that anytime soon.

Yes, google hangouts works just fine. The main problem with that is I don't really use hangouts. I use message+ to text with and receive texts and am not looking to change that anytime soon. I'm sure I am not the only one who feels this way. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to fix the problem.

That's not a viable solution for me, thanks. I don't plan to switch to Google Hangouts. This needs to be fixed to work with Message+ on Samsung Android, please.

I completely agree. Not many android users that I know of use google hangouts as their default messaging app. The majority use Message+, and saying that the fitbit app is compatible with Message+ and the android operating system implies that issues like this are resolved. There has to be a way to keep track of messages that are sent to the Blaze notifications to ensure that no duplicate messages are resent. Fitbit developers should see this as a priority in my eyes since it affects so many users.
