Motorola Moto G5 (2017) can sync with Charge 2

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Just in case some of you are considering the new Moto G5 (5th gen. 2017): I received mine today and my Charge 2 had no problem syncing with it, although it is not (yet?) listed as a compatible device. Same with my Surge, btw.

For those of you in America, only the bigger Moto G5 Plus will make it there. However, I assume the internals (OS = Android 7.0 + Bluetooth) are the same as far as Fitbit is concerned.

I had a OnePlus3 that worked quite well with my Charge 2.  It broke.  I bought a Moto G5 Plus today and it doesn't even see the Charge 2 over bluetooth.  Is there anything to be done?  One or both will have to go back to the store, if not

Get an iPhone if you want full functionality of your Fitbit. I just don't
think Fitbit programmers are going to code to phones other than apple
products.

Getting an iPhone is not an acceptable fix. Some of us won't touch an
iPhone with a 1000 foot pole for several reasons, which are not part of the
scope of this discussion. If my Charge 2 hadn't been compatible I would have returned it and
looked for an alternative fitness tracking device, not an alternative phone.

Hmmm... that is odd. Dumb question: Do you have both, your location and bluetooth on? I have a Moto G5 Plus and I connect just fine. That is with the exception of receiving notifications of any kind from my phone, but I believe that discussed that issue on a previous post on this thread.

Exactly. I'm not going to let Fitbit decide what kind of phone I should use. I'm not a fan of Apple and their overpriced phones. The funny thing is, the Samsung gear fit 2 is compatible with all Android and Apple devices so it's very possible to have broad compatability, but Fitbit chooses to push iPhones rather than do that. And my point was that my Fitbit worked for months, then they broke it with an update.

Choose your fitness tracker based on your phone, not your phone based on your fitness tracker.

I had the same problem. I found an old Moto X laying around installed Fitbit app on it. It synct to my charge 2 and The Blaze. I went to my Moto g5s Plus open the Fitbit app and sync both the blaze in the charge 2 on that works perfectly. I wanted to put the Fitbit app on my PC I had to upgrade Windows 10 to install the Fitbit app. I never use the PC so I use the USB ports to charge my devices, it took a couple weeks to get everything to work. Try the PC let me know.

Just wanted to be clear because I think the original issue is no longer
being discussed. Syncing a Fitbit blaze works most of the time with my
Moto g5 plus without issue. The app shows my steps and all the other stuff
the app will tell you including gps. What it doesn't do regularly is get
the alert from my phone. Phone calls show up on my blaze once every 50
calls or so. Totally random. One day my blaze shows me I have an incoming
call, the next call, nothing. Text messages used to show consistently, now
they routinely stop showing up on my blaze. That's what the sync issue, the
Moto g5 doesn't want to communicate with the charge, or it's sending the
information and Fitbit doesn't know what to do with it.

I didn't know the Fitbit didn't work on all phones before I bought it... I
thought it was Android and iOS. Sorry to hear yours don't work I'd be
pissed off too. I got my Blaze at fitnesstacs.com $69 tracker only Charge 2
$59 tracker only. The dog crunched my first blaze. It took me all day to
get Fitbit app installed on my Windows 10 PC.
Good luck hope you get it working.
The Garmin Fitness trackers use the same phones as Fitbit.

Sorry, I guess my issue is "won't setup ".

maybe all of our communication about notifications has made a difference. I got 2 phone calls today and my blaze alerted me of those 2 calls.  great news phone call alerts for my moto g5 are comming from my blaze.

I get the occasional notifications as well, but not consistently, which makes it useless. The moto g5 is still not listed on the website as supported and it's been on the market for 5 months. By the time they add support people will have moved onto another fitness band.

Motorola runs a pretty 'stock' version of Android so it should be fairly straightforward I'd hope.

Persistence... I just synct my G5 moments ago, after several attempts.
When I first installed it I got the charge 2 Bluetooth icon on my phone but
I couldn't get it to sync, so I forgot charge 2, deleted charge 2 from the
Fitbit app (may have uninstalled the app to) clicked add a new device
reinstall charge 2 after that I got it to sync check my Bluetooth setting
there was no icon for charge 2 but it was syncing. So I was just happy to
get it syncing and a few days later I noticed that the charge 2 Icon was
there but sometimes I'd have to try to sync at 3 or four or 5 times. Easy
way if you have a Windows laptop PC install Fitbit app on that and it'll
sync all the time plus there are other settings in the windows app that you
can't do on the phone app. So when I charge my device I just connect to the
laptop. I originally bought a blaze Factory reconditioned for $99 before I
put it on my wrist my puppy got a hold of it bit a hole through the screen
then I bought a charge 2 for $99. Then I found this place
https://fitnesstacs.com/ and bought a blaze for $69 tracker only and they
sell charge 2 for $64. Both sync on my g5s Plus but not every time hope
this helps let me know maybe I'll think of something else. Sometimes I
have to restart Bluetooth on my phone and it works.... Don't despair the
Garmin trackers work exactly the same way only syncs with certain phones
mostly Samsung..... PERSISTENCE

Hi,

I wish that I could tell you about some special sauce that I divised to sync with my G5+, but it isn't so. Other than making sure that I have the latest Android updates that the Moto G allows you to install, I just occasionally open my location and Bluetooth at the same time and force the app to sync by "pulling down" on the main screen. I hope that this helps, though I doubt it. I'm what you would call "paranoid" and don't like to leave my location or Bluetooth open when not necessary, so my Fitbit app only updates when I want it to and not automatically.

I totally agree my charge 2 syncs with my G S5 Plus without much trouble
after I got it to sync the first time. It helps sometimes if you reset the
charge 2. best solution is, have a Windows machine just use the app on
that. When the tracker syncs with the windows app it also updates the app
on other devices, it also syncs with my Lenovo tablet. I also have a blaze
and it syncs to my G5S. I checked the Garmin trackers they're the same way,
they mostly work on Samsung iPhones the compatibility list is exactly the
same as the Fitbit trackers. I suspect it's not the trackers that it's the
phone makers.

My focus is on the fitbit not receiving phone alters. I feel this chat has
evolved from the issue of not getting text and phone alerts on my blaze to
general sync issues.

The blaze syncs pretty consistently with my G5 Motorola phone. What it
rarely does is alert me that I am getting a phone call..

What is so very weird is that it will alert me every now and then when I get
a phone call.

Totally random. So they do communicate but, just every now and then, maybe
once or twice a month. I can be at home near my computer, and it may alter
me, or in my car.

I am ready to get a different sports watch but I think Motorola wants we to
buy one of there's and that I need to do more research on.

Not getting push notifications is due to your phone not syncing properly
your phone has to sync with the Fitbit to get push notifications.

Oh, my Charge 2 has never worked for push notifications... luckily that's
not the reason that I acquired the Fitbit, even though it shows it to be a
half-baked product.
