Recently got the huawei p smart with the new oreo 8.0, I have updated my app and reset my watch etc... But still no notifications. I can receive the test notification only because I have my app open, so I when I close it the connection is lost. Any ideas?

Hello there @Swinsy, thank you for visiting the Fitbit Community! In this case is important to mention the Huawei P Smart is not among our supported Android devices. Nonetheless has not being declare as not compatible at the moment as other Huawei models (Huawei P9 Lite and Huawei P8 Lite).
Usually if your tracker is failing to received notifications is because the connection with the Bluetooth of your phone is not steady. For this it wouldn't hurt to try these suggestions: My tracker isn't receiving notifications (Android Fitbit app).

I appreciate its not a supported phone. I've tried all work arounds to no avail. When I got the phone it never crossed my mind as all previous mobiles worked. Problem now is tied up in a 2 year contract. Will fitbit be working with Huawei to resolve?
